I don't own any guns. I don't hunt and I don't like the concept of hunting. Besides, guns make loud scary noises that hurt my ears. Yup, in my personal opinion, guns are bad.

But the latest efforts of gun control lobbyists are much much worse.

I read recently that in some state (I think it was Connecticut, but I'm not sure), they've passed a law that allows police to search citizen's residences and confiscate guns if there's 'probable cause' that they might use one. All that without a warrant.

Therefore, if you have had a bad day, muttered something like 'I wish you were dead', and then go home, the police could - in theory - have already gotten there, broken in, and seized that piece you keep around for home defense. Innocent until proven guilty? Doesn't look that way from over here.

This new law could set a trend toward a police state. It sounds good at first, until you really take a look at it and see what could happen if it got out of control.

First of all, it penalizes people like me - antisocial hermit-like folks who just don't like to socialize. Because of course you know that I'm just a powder keg waiting to explode. Because I don't mow my lawn every week. Or set up neighborhood get-togethers. Damnit, I just don't like people... and want to be left alone. I value my privacy too much to let a policeman into my innermost sanctum on the whim that I MIGHT be a threat.

Yeah, fuck that.

Really - this sort of thing scares me.

To continue, if this thing actually works out, it'll spread. Imagine, the police being able to burst into your home on suspicion that you're trafficking drugs. Or have questionable pornographic material at your residence. Or hell, just because they don't like you. And what could we do about it? Not a damn thing!

What it all could boil down to is the takeover of America - by its own government. We already live with a system that promotes the illusion that we have a choice. I long ago realized that there's no difference between Democrats and Republicans - they're both just puppets for the investors they serve. They both lie and steal with relative impunity. And after all the guns are gone, what's to stop them from going all the way - from an illusionary dictatorship to a real one?

Not a damn thing.

I can probably never own a handgun. Even if I wanted to. Already, my mental history makes me suspect. I'm already guilty, without really having done anything.

To note, I am not an advocate of the NRA. And as I said before, I don't even like guns. At the core of my personal deepest beliefs, I am a pacifist. But, to be as trite as I possibly can - 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people'.

Point in fact - in another state (I think it's Texas), it's legal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. It sounds scary as hell, but when you think about it how likely are you to go mug someone when it's entirely possible that that person is packing some heat? Not bloody likely - the $50 that you could make pales in comparison to getting a nice hole shot through you.

What we should do is take a look at what actually makes people 'go postal' and have themselves a shooting spree. Maybe, just maybe - and I know this is a radical thought - if we treated each other with kindness and respect things like that would stop happening.

Naw... that's just too far fetched.
