As I walk down the halls of my school, sporting my upside down flag patch, I hear a lot of comments such as, "ANARCHY!" (in a sarcastic tone), "ANTI-FLAG!" (also in a sarcastic tone), and things like "BURN AMERICA!" (complimented, of course, by the sarcastic tone). All I can do in response is shake my head and laugh. It boggles my mind, how can they be so ignorant? They don't even know what I stand for, yet here they are making fun of me. The only way I can explain it is that those who ridicule my beliefs must WANT to be controlled. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. They are making fun of me, because, yes I am an anarchist, but only ideally. I'm not an avid anarchist who walks around preaching, "chaos, chaos now!" I do not believe that anarchy could work with the way that humankind thinks and acts. Ideally anarchy has nothing to do with chaos. Chaos would be the product of anarchy in society with the way humankind is today. Anarchy is about living your life with no restrictions, no outside control, doing what you want, and living your life to the fullest. Now is there something wrong with that? How could you be against living a life with no restrictions? You have to remember that I am speaking of this through an idealist's perspective. I know that in society today, life without restrictions would mean mass murder. But if hatred were eliminated from the world (this is where the ideal part comes in) then anarchy would be perfect. Yet I get made fun of because of this. This is where my hypothesis that people want to be controlled comes in. But maybe its not that people want to be controlled, maybe its the fact that, people have grown up with control their entire lives, and that's the only way they know how to live, under control. That's kinda scary. People aren't ready for living their lives on their own; they always need someone there to guide them, to basically take them out on a leash. And when someone comes along to tell them that there are better ways, they ostracize them. Anarchy is more then just the absence of government. It's a way of living life. It's a better way of living life. But I am sad to say; there are not many people that follow that same ideal. What is wrong with anarchy? Why do people get ridiculed if they believe in anarchy? Your life is so very short; you have to live it to its extent. You need to have fun, be yourself, and live happily. You're going to die, there's no question about that, so you want to live your life the best you can. Wouldn't the best way to live your life be under your own terms? Is that not what anarchy is? Anarchy is freedom. Isn't freedom what we all say is the best thing about this country? Then why not have more freedom…better freedom…anarchy. And there's something wrong with that? So as I shake my head and laugh, ask yourself why you're making fun of me. What really have I done wrong, what is so wrong with the things that I believe in? Just stop and think for a second.
