How    the    Boys    got    Started

The beginning of the Backstreet Boys career began in the early 90s. A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough met each other during a talent competition and since they saw each other at a lot of auditions for Nickelodeon shows, they began to sing acappella while waiting for their appointments. Nick Carter was once auditioning for the same project as A.J. and Howie, heard them singing, and joined in. They soon decided to form a group and got Louis Pearlman to help them. Louis suggested that they extend the group to five members.

Kevin Richardson who was working in Disney MGM Studios, heard about some guys who were always harmonizing and arraged to meet them. Kevin them joined Nick, A.J., and Howie but they were still one member short. Kevin called his cousin Brian and he flew down to Orlando the next day and lined the group. They all decide to name themselves the Backstreet Boys, after the popular Backstreet Market.

After performing at many shows, they finally got some recognition and got a record deal with Jive Records. Their first single release "We've Got It Goin'On" was somewhat popular in the U.S. but totally exploded in Canada and Western Europe. Their album Backstreet Boys became platinum in Canda, double platinum in Germany, and was extremely popular in Asia. The Backstreet Boys have come home now with their popular single "As Long As You Love Me" .
