I don't understand the question....you mean there WAS life before the internet? Are you sure? This bears close scrutiny, for I'm not altogether positive that what came before was not merely an illusion.

I seem to have vague recollections of huge volumes of books labeled A through Z, where we'd look up information. Such a tedious method. So much happened since the printing of that prehistoric object.

I slightly recall an item, long and slender, filled with a dark fluid, which when pressed upon a clean crisp sheet of paper, would allow me to loop and curl and flair in my most practiced penmanship, filling page after page with real sentences and proper grammar.

There was a shiny form, made of some type of plastic material, with numbered keys on it. You pressed these keys and within seconds a human voice was glad to hear from you. I believe it was attached to this wire that now enters the derierre of my computer.

And where are the piles of printed magazines that sat and waited to be thumbed through, clipped, passed on to neighbors? Oh, yes, now I read E-zines. So civil, so clean, so free! Okay, so it's a bummer for those bathroom readers.

Ah, if memory serves me correctly, 'chat' used to be called conversation, and took place with eye contact and body language, both mirrors to the truth within a person. Ppl were people, you didn't get a kink in your neck looking at them smile, when you laughed out loud you threw your head back and your shoulders shook, and your belly if you had one, instead of 'left little finger, (shift), right ring finger (LOL)'.

What was here in this spot a decade ago before this computer took up residence? What was where the computer in the bedroom is? What did I do in motels at night before I got my laptop? Was it better, was it worse? I really don't remember.
