djs: not gods but jesus

these supreme beings who straddle the pedestals of power in the clubbing realm combine instinctive chutzpah with hardened skill, in between scrabbling between each other for the latest and best in manna. our lot in malaysia are a rabble crew mixing the pioneers who've walked through the era of rn'b to evolve and the new breed knighted from overseas experience. some of them are pro's, some of them are dabblers, some of them are rising stars:

Gabriel
plays at: Boom Boom, Energy, bpm parties
our dome-headed dj who hails from singapore has been here for a long time. he used to be the "consultant" when fire was happening and seems to have somewhat of a midas touch. he and rizal work in the only dance specialist shop here (singles shoppe in wilayah complex), and thus have exclusive access to the latest shippings.

Su(nanda)/babyface
plays at: Boom Boom
finalist at the international DMC dj competition last year, su reigns supreme at boom boom's hiphop nights although these shld not really be a measure of his talents what with puff daddy, coolio and the like being orders from the masses. instead, check out his trip hop and breakbeat paraphernalia that is given breathing space on one-off nites such as the deep opening night and at vivid's fervour.

Callen
plays at: arena
another baby-faced dj but bespectacled, callen is responsible for introducing deep house and trance to the thousands of middle-class suburban kids of the sunway, subang jaya area.

Jerry
plays at: silhouette
he has been accused of forcing down monotonous "commercial" eurodance to the after-hours silhouette crowd, but he insists it's just management policy who insist it's what the crowd wants. personally, he professes to want to play more drum n' bass.

air con guys
they are: colleen, kenneth, kean wong, brian
play at: ilann and nani's parties, used to play at energy, citrus
due to their close relationships with the above organisers, they have been main vanguards at many of these parties. more eclectic in choice and sometimes in style but rough-hewn in skill and experience.

jay
plays at: liquid
one of the old-timers, jay has been playing house since the late 80s. he resides the consul with kevin at liquid but has his hands more full with managing the club.

sacha
plays at: space events
self-describedly, he plays, "trip hop & breakbeat, drum & bass, drum & space, and jungle, slipstream music, genre defying."

mark
plays at: boom boom
the long-tressed and bearded one plays house and more which he shall elaborate himself.

quiche/kesh
plays at: pink and yellow events, imc rooftop
kesh plays triphop, acid jazz, and in his words, "intelligent drum n' bass". played last at energy feb 14.

donovan/da funkie junkie
plays at: pink and yellow events, energy (sat), waves
played at: uk: feelgood's, university club nights, house parties
plays funky disco house, french tech house, old skool disco, latin house, speed garage. got back from uk three to four months ago. "hey man, i love clubbing so i thought instead of dancing why don't i make other people dance?". it took him 5 years to figure that out. to which he quickly acquired a whole expensive system ("it's quite scary") and applied trial and error. that was a year ago. and begging for a half hour set at silhouette, he wrangled his first malaysian gig through jerry who quickly introduced him to reuben, resident at energy.

cheese n' chives
plays at: laidback @ echo, first thursday of every month
played at: their events at deep and karmasutra

these UK-ites (not ukay heights) are into mellow electronica as their club night at echo suggests... trip hop, acid jazz, lounge and even as it would seem, some old skool disco. check out their virtual community site
