What if

by

POET

What if I could transform the universe

I'd impregnate love, and give birth to a new earth

I'd exchange the deserts for the sea

have all the paraplegics dance with me

I'd do more for blacks than Clinton ever vowed

have "welfare moms" on my arms and walking proud.

I'd give AIDS victims a cure in my very first act

go downtown and yank all them heads off of crack

I'd let childhood be about playin' and learnin'

Lexus's for everybody, no matter what you're earnin'

Yes, even if could do all the miracles I described

man would still find a way to destroy lives

Still, it's nice to fantasize about peace

to trip off what I'd want most and what I'd like least

And even if none of us can end all the pain we see

I'd still like someone to think about "What If They Could"

the next time they meet me.
