Taking Care of Business -- Reviewed by Mario Manganiello

Taking Care of Business is an amazingly formulaic movie. It
watches like a long sitcom...well, maybe not quite that bad.
The plot: Jimmy Dworski (Jim Belushi) is a car thief who is due
to get out of prison in just a few days. Spencer Barnes (Charles Grodin)
is an over-organized busniess man who's entire life is in his Filofax, a
leather-bound book thing that serves as wallet, Rolodex, calendar, file
folder and who knows what else.
Dworski wins tickets to the last game of the Cubs/Angels World Series
by calling in to a radio show. (Why is it that baseball teams that feature
highly in the movies are usually either the Cubs, Angels, or Indians? End
of digression) He devises a truly silly plan to escape out of prison to
see the game and then break back in to be released. Meanwhile, Spencer goes
on a business trip, cancelling his vacation with his wife who then leaves
him. In the L.A. airport, he accidentally leaves his Filofax atop a pay phone
where it gets picked up by Dworski who, in trying to return it, decides to
instead assume the identity of Spencer Barnes.
Silly plot? Sure, but it does have its moments. I wouldn't suggest that
someone go out an rent this movie when there are so many other choices out
there...but I also wouldn't tell them not to get it.
Loryn Locklin plays Jewel, the daughter of Spencer's boss. She ends up
falling for Jimmy Dworski, thinking he's Spencer. It's fairly clear that the
writers intended her to be mostly eye-candy in this movie but she delivers her
usual great performance. Her reactions and speech are all very real, at no
time is the reality barrier broken, disbelief remains suspended.
Plus, for those of you out there not yet past 15, you get to see Loryn in
a bikini.
