The nudey man at the Tribal party (I think it was Tribal 3) in an Alexandria warehouse years ago - maybe 1992 - was heaps funny. We were off our nuts and a really homophobic mate of mine was dancing just in front of this nude guy and didn't know it. My mate's hand hit the guy's schlong and it felt weird so my mate turned around to see what it was. His eyes nearly popped out of his head. Next thing he's got us all back in the car and is trying to convince us to go to another party.
Weirdest thing was at Happy valley back in 1990 and I had some Robots lined up but we couldn't find the guy so I took some Strawberries instead. Then the Robots guy found me and I stupidly had one of them as well. I had out-of-body experiences and thought I was in a movie. Then I worked out that you don't need to be on the vertical axis if you believe you don't and decided to levitate horizontally around the rave. Craig.
The best experience in my life was being at my first rave (everypicture 16 - halloween) and taking ecstasy for the first time. Magik! The best! Jeremy.
The best experience that I have had was where I danced for hours and afterwards I felt so good. It's so good seeing and meeting people at raves, it's even better when you find out it's their first rave and the are going "this rules man, yeeahh.... I was dancing for ages... it's great" and it make you feel good inside that someone else has discovered that magic that happens in the world of raving and how once your in a rave everything changes and it really does become another world. Rohan.
Just getting wasted and running into family friends off their faces who are usually completely straight. Ryan.
Having had a bag stolen at a rave that was full of drugs and mobile phones and clothes and all kindsa stuff then finding it a little later on when the morning came :) Ian.
Best - Seeing the sun come up at any earthcore party. Zak.
Taking a strawberry trip and seeing the doors at a seven eleven open and close all different colours - that was a weird experience. A good experience was at earthcore before new years 97 being in a huge group hug with my bestest friends and then all eating a HUGE mud cake on the ground!! It sounds bad but it was memorable. A bad experience was at War of the Worlds with Drax, I thought I dropped an E in my drink and had a paranoia attack from tripping too hard earlier in the night. It was so fucked. Beck.
Being totally scared of the teletubbies and this little fat girl who was dancing while a hardcore dj was playing and me and about 6 other friend's were on a T. That's probably my best/worst/weirdest experience all in one. Eden.
Best: Bumping into friends that you have not seen for ages.
Worst: Trying to help your friends through a bad trip, and them nearly going to hospital because of it. Adam.
Best: The first rave I went to in seattle had a lazer and video system that was trippy even when sober...
Worst: Paying ten bucks to go to a real shitty rave in Boise, ID. We left after one dj.
Weirdest: Being on shrooms at a rave in a skating rink (sounds like a lame location, but i was suprised....) Jarret.
Worst: There was this guy who was completely obsessed with me and he saw me kiss someone so he flipped out cause he was extremely intoxicated. He started punching the wall and was talking about how he was going to kill himself and the guy I kissed. It was really whacked out. Shylie.
The best was probably the second rave I went to which was Earthcore, in which I felt a sense tranceding the surface of normal social interaction and breaking into something spiritual and tribal, in fact something more than any name we can attach to it.
The worst was at Every Picture 14, although my friends assure me I was just having a bad trip, the people seemed really distant, most of them young and seemingly there just to be seen. I got there pretty early at about 12.30 and there weren't many people dancing and I saw many people kissing, open-mouthed, very aggresively. This made for a flashback to my days as a blue light disco goer. I found the venue a disturbing reminder of the mediocrity of everyday existence, this opposed to my previous encounters at the docks, earthcore and kryal castle all of which deviate somewhat from everyday norm. A girl walked past me with purple hair and I asked if it associated with DNA mutation, she snobbed me off bigtime... that was most disturbing. Then after being in the venue for about 45 minutes I decided it might be an idea if I gathered my thoughts outside, so I went to the entrance looking for someone to give passouts, I turned to a security guard and I asked him. He said no passouts for three hours, he then asked for my ticket. I tried explain that I had already been in there etc, etc, to no avail. So I rang a friend to pick me up, forgetting about my snow leopard coat that I left in the coat thing, which I still haven't got till this day. I beleive I have good reason to consider this a bad night. Luke.
Best: Going back stage at Halcyon Knights and meeting Carl Cox. Mat.
There are a few BEST experiences:
1. My first party, (Jungle Mash Up 2 1995): The unity was so powerful I immediately felt like one of the crew.
2. Kryal Castle 1997-1998: My first ever pill- My dancing was fucking
excellent and I had all my friends there and the best music in the world, and I was free, there was nothing more beautiful.
3. Can't remember what drug I had, probably LSD, or what party some time in 97, but I realised that Nature had the superior beauty in this world, but the most beautiful thing that man could ever create was a rave. Sound, love, unity, freedom etc. It was such a buzz! Vanessa.
The weirdest experience I had at a rave was at Knights of the Round Table. It was held in a castle, which one guy was building by himself, and to make money he threw parties. Anywayz me and a few newly made friends were sitting up at the top of one of the towers talking when a stark naked (not in shape) woman passed us...and she was not walking up the steps. Oh no, she was climbing on the rotting scaffolding that swirled around the unfinished towers of the castle. I decided it was wayyyy to early for that shit and went down to the dance floor to find another woman (hippy) dancing with her shirt off. I had escaped down to the bottom floor when both of them desided it was time to come down and start to get ready to leave....I guess they thought their clothes were stayin or something. I mean, no one really wanted to see anyone else naked and fucked up after three days of camping, dancing and no sleep! But other than those two experiences that was one of the KICkest and most friendliest raves I have ever been to. Heather.
Meeting a guy I had not seen since I was 12 in the toilets at Apollo. Then racking kuta charlie with him 2 minutes later. James.
Best experience at a rave would be the first time I tried XTC. The other was going to Earthcore and walked to the main dance floor under no drug influences and being totally blown away by what I saw. The masses of people and the whole atmosphere... it was awesome. Garth.
Everyone has its own unique experiences... but the best would have been my first outdoor party, watching the sun come up out of the mountains, mist rolling over a creek in front of me, sitting with a friend and being able to hear the birds singing and soft trance in the background. It was sooooo perfect. We kept saying “I wonder if this is what heaven is like?” Lis.
My first party in Detroit rolling with with my best friends was so cool. They turned me on to raves so hard and I have never been the same since. Andrew.
My first rave was in San Luis, a small town on the central coast of California, and there were about 800 people there. I took 100mg of pure that a friend gave me (who is a damn good chemist). I was spun for 5 hours, and I danced the whole time. Even though I couldn’t dance for shit, I had a lot of fun. Jesse Brooks drank a glass of G, and collapsed 15 minutes into his set, and the promoters for Lovelife were there, and Jesse was spinning at their party the next week, so it didnt look too professional to OD during a set. Other than all that happening, that was the best rave experince of my life. Mike.
Best: The devotion showed by the dance floor preparers for this year's Trancelements and the Ollie Wisdom set that culminated the party.
Worst: Never had a bad experience, although early finishes are annoying.
Weirdest: Leaving Trancelements 1 (1997) after 3 days of continuous tripping and dancing and being stopped by the police roadblock just past the exit for an alcohol breath test. Needless to say, I failed to register (although I know they did catch some silly campers). Paul.
Worst would have to be when I rolled up to a party after eating 13 blue meanies ... no-one told me I should've only eaten 3... Needless to say I seriously lost the plot...
Best time would have been the last Earthcore, when I was towed around the party on an offroad skateboard, behind a car... for about 20 minutes at 30 Kms ... fast and Fun! Kris.
