1) Schindler's List - can't say I've ever had a movie move me so much. A true historical masterpiece that everyone should see!
2) Contact - touched on many subjects confronting every one of us. I found the battle between science & religion quite intriguing. I think Carl Sagan touched on something with this, his only work of fiction!
3) Titanic - I've cried at movies before but this was ridiculous! Good old-fashioned romance which only added to the awe of witnessing the great ship going down! A film done so well, you felt like you were a passenger on the Titanic yourself!
4) Grease - strictly for sentimental reasons - the first film I ever saw, the first record I ever owned etc. I can't recall another film where I couldn't remove the goofy grin from my face throughout!
5) Little Women (1994) - the ultimate "chick flick"! Cried oceans the first ten times I watched it! Winona Ryder was amazing! Wish I could write something like this!
6) Sex, Lies & Videotape - satiates the voyeuristic streak in me! James Spader masturbating on a couch, looking sullen and sad - how can I possibly resist?
7) Carrie - I felt much like Carrie in high school, wish I could've done what she did!
8) The Shining - although I've seen this film umpteen times, it still manages to send shivers up my spine! Jack Nicholson is at his best in this one!
9) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - almost forgot about this one! Another Jack classic! The only part of Man & Society in high school that I enjoyed! A brilliant film - and Nicholson definitely deserved his Academy Award!!!
10) Twister/The Seventh Sign - a tie! I enjoyed every second of Twister! Have had nary a tornado nightmare since - very cathartic! Also, as a big fan of "armageddon" type films, I found The Seventh Sign utterly fascinating from beginning to end. The finale always makes me cry and the moral that Jurgen Prochnow relays at the end is something we should all pay heed to.
11) Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs - had to put these together - both classic Tarantino. Great dialogue, great violence, great cast of characters! Tarantino is superb!
12) The Breakfast Club - the ultimate "Brat Pack" movie! A simple premise but it really worked and was a story we all, as teens, could relate to in one way or another.
13) Anne of Green Gables (The Mini Series) - I guess this isn't really considered a "feature film" but I had to include it on my list. If this WAS a feature film, Megan Follows would have been up for an Oscar for sure. She took the role of Anne Shirley and brought it to life brilliantly! Next to Little Women, my favourite story as a young girl.
14) The Sound of Music - it took me awhile to appreciate this film again, seeing my former roommate would sit down every Sunday and watch it. But at long last I've got my own copy and I can sit down and actually enjoy it. Romantic, beautiful scenery, makes me smile!
15) The Wizard of Oz - brings out the child in me, what can I say? Could never grow tired of this one!
16) Ghost - one of the most touching love stories I've ever seen! The final scene makes me cry buckets each and every time!
17) Jaws - I was even afraid to dip my toes in Lake Erie after watching this one!
18) Bram Stoker's Dracula - very stylish and visually appealing. I liked the romantic aspect to this telling of the story. Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder were fantastic!
19) Psycho - why they're remaking this one, I don't understand? Is it really necessary? And why does my former roommate come to mind whenever I see it?
20) The Lion King - the only animated feature I've seen in the theatre as an adult...and I found it very moving. I think it tells a wonderful story all children (and adults) should pay close attention to.
21) Saving Private Ryan - this one just made it in! Will probably place higher on my list in the future! Probably the most graphic and moving war film ever made! Although I'm not a Tom Hanks fan, I found his performance in this one quite brilliant!
22) Fame - I loved the television series and it was only last year I saw the feature film for the first time. Tonnes of music and dancing - a lot of fun!
23) The Diary of Anne Frank - a very sad story with a tragic end. Gripping and brilliantly acted!
24) The Emperor Strikes Back - my fave of the Star Wars Trilogy! When I saw this on the big screen for the first time last year, it was the fastest two hours I've ever sat thru!
25) Star Wars - another one that appeals to the child in all of us! Truly imaginative and has never quite been recaptured by anyone - probably never will be!
26) Pink Flamingos - as revolting as this film is, I had to include it in my list! It's so...WEIRD...you've just gotta love it! You definitely won't forget it after watching it!
27) Heavenly Creatures - discovered this New Zealand film completely by accident - the true story of two young girls who form an unusual bond resulting in murder. Kate Winslet's debut and she's beautiful and brilliant!
28) The Fly - remember when Seth (Jeff Goldblum) was into the sugar big-time and had all that excess energy? Oh, to be Geena Davis for a day...or two!!!
29) Backbeat - this biographic piece about the "fifth Beatle" Stuart Sutcliffe is wonderful! Very energetic and truly captures the spirit which made the Beatles what they were!
30) Silence of the Lambs - one of the most disturbing films ever made! Some of the best acting I've ever seen!
31) Fatal Attraction - became a big fan of psychological thrillers, thanks to this one! Michael Douglas and Glenn Close were both fantastic!
32) Single White Female - the only reason I can think of that I enjoy this film so much is because I relate to it so well. It's like seeing my life with my former roommate acted out on the big screen! Freaks me out!
33) Texas Chainsaw Massacre - as corny as this film is in some scenes, I still jump out of my skin in others. I remember sitting up late with my brother watching this when we were supposed to be in bed!
34) Jurassic Park - most impressive on the big screen! Even today, when I've seen it numerous times, I still find it thrilling when the cast first lays eyes on the dinosaurs!
35) Romancing The Stone - another I always found very romantic. Michael Douglas makes my teeth sweat, what can I say?
36) Longtime Companion - this film about the outbreak of AIDS is very moving and sad. Always good for a cry and captures the time period involved. Anybody who's a gay-basher should see this film, maybe it will open their eyes!
37) The Exorcist - one of the scariest films I've ever seen!
38) Dying Young - very romantic and very sad. Campbell Scott is cute as a button!
39) Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory - why this one isn't considered a classic like The Wizard of Oz, I'll never know! Pure magic! Still love it today! Gene Wilder is terrific!
40) Amadeus - I remember watching this three times in music class during high school! Fell in love with the music of Mozart and thoroughly enjoyed the film! Must get myself a keeper of this one!
41) Dirty Dancing - Patrick Swayze shaking his booty sans shirt - what more can I say?
42) Return of the Jedi - my least fave of the Star Wars trilogy but still one of my faves of all time! Especially enjoyed the anniversary edition with its extra touches!
43) La Bamba - cried buckets at the theatre - another biographic film with fun music!
44) Sweet Dreams - the film based on the life of Patsy Cline - I used to watch it repeatedly on Muchmusic. Great music, a neat story - I've always enjoyed biographic pieces. Jessica Lange and Ed Harris were both AMAZING!
45) Pet Semetary - despite the fact Stephen King wrote the screenplay, I've always quite enjoyed this film! First horror film I ever saw on the big screen (as pathetic as that sounds!). I remember being eighteen and carded at the theatre!
46) Heathers - well, I like Winona Ryder, what can I say? As a misfit in school, myself, I always rather enjoyed this film!
47) Nightmare on Elm Street - probably one of the first horror films I ever saw and, even to this day, if I catch a repeat during the week of October 31st, it still gives me a little fright
48) Sixteen Candles - more eighties brat pack! "Ooh look, she's got her boobies!"
49) Pretty In Pink - as a child of the eighties, how could I resist this film? And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe this is where James Spader first caught my eye!
50) Nights In White Satin - I'm probably the only person on the planet who took notice of this film - a story about a photographer who falls in love with a homeless girl. Always struck me as very romantic - when he secretly watches her dancing ballet to the Moody Blues song, it was (at the time) the most romantic thing I'd ever seen!
