Can anybody fill
This empty shadow,
This empty shadow
With a hollow heart?
This vacant soul
Without any hope?
Can anybody hold
This lonely hand,
This lonely hand
With aching fingers?
These trembling arms
With nobody to hold?
A REFLECTION OF ME
I see you flapping
Against the windowpane,
Trying desperately to break free,
Crying in vain
For someone to hear,
Encountering only a wall of glass.
You remind me of myself.
Your wings are my heart,
Beating furious with fear.
Your cries are my voice,
Fighting to be heard.
The windows
Are the doors I now face...
ROSE IN THE SNOW
Lonely, you stand,
Surrounded by an ocean of white.
No one can reach you,
Struggling towards
Outstretched arms,
Knee-deep
In this which surrounds us.
Shivering, you embrace yourself,
Head bowed against cold wind;
You yearn for the return of sunlight,
Sweet summer warmth,
Bird songs in your ears.
We both remember these things -
Was it only yesterday?
I wish I could protect you,
As I feel I am intended to do,
Shield you from this sudden winter,
Shelter you in the love I feel
For your rare beauty.
Lovely, you stand,
This solitary bit of colour
Amidst a field of white;
My heart goes out to you
As my thoughts turn to Spring;
This reminder of a kinder season,
This rose in the snow.
