Starship Classes For Phase World:

In general ships in the Three Galaxies fall into various class due to their sizes. This list shows the various class of ships and how they are defined by size. These are not hard and fast rules but a general standard that the Major powers use to judge their vessels and compare them to others. Ships of the Line are ships that their main purpose is to engage in Ship to ship battles either by direct fire weapons or by missile launchers. Carriers are ships that use fighters as their main weapon systems. These class do not include ships from Robotech, Mutants in Orbit, Macross, and any of the various conversions from other universes.

Other Terms:
Assault Carrier: A carrier designed for planetary assault, roughly equivalent to modern amphibious carriers.
Battle Carrier: A carrier with heavy armor and shielding.
Mine Sweeper: Vessel designed to clear mines
Monitor: Term for non FTL capable medium size starships used for in system defense
Q-Ship: Vessel that appears to be a merchant vessel but is actually armed
System Defense Boat: Term for non FTL capable destroyer size starships used for in system defense

Organizational Units:
Division: About 4 ships
Squadron: About 8 ships
Flotilla: About 16 ships
