SPECIAL ORDERS - - - GUARD MOUNT:
1. Battalion commands will mount their own battalion guards and Brigade guard mount will operate according to these orders.
2. Guard detail will be in four increments as follows:
Period 1: Friday, 6 p.m. to Midnight - 1st Battalion
Period 2: Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. - 2nd Battalion
Period 3: Saturday, 4 p.m. to Midnight - 1st Battalion
Period 4: Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. - 2nd Battalion
3. First Battalion will provide the Guard for Periods 1 and 3. Second Battalion will provide the Guard for Periods 2 and 4.
4. Battalion commanders will designate an officer from their battalion to serve as Brigade Officer of the Day whose duty will be to command the Guard for the Period designated. The Brigade Officer of the Day will be detailed one of the Battalion companies to serve each as the Guard. Any company detached as Brigade Guard shall be relieved from any Battalion fatigue details.
5. At the end of guard duty and at the beginning, the changing of the guard shall be conducted by the Officer of the Day. He will transmit specific instructions, warnings and any orders to the new guard.
6. During any guard period, the Officer of the Day will post men at these posts: 1 man on the Brigade Headquarters; 2 men on the Brigade Color Line; and 1 man about the Brigade Horses. The Officer of the Day will delegate the length of time each man is posted at such position and may rotate them at his discretion. The remainder of the Guard will be on hand and available to his call to handle an emergency.
7. The Brigade Officer of the Day will insure that each man on each post is instructed at to his mission for each period.
8. The Mission of the Horse Guard is to prevent unauthorized persons from approaching the animals and to summon the horse handlers if there is a horse problem on the picket line.
9. The other Guards will have the following missions: On Friday the Guard is to assist arriving soldiers in locating their correct camp spots. On Saturday the Guard is to preserve the order of the camp. On Sunday the Guard is ceremonial.
10. The call for modern, 21st Century problems shall be the word "Alarm"
11. The guards will be provided with Countersigns and Paroles. Countersigns are what everyone is given to pass the sentry. Parole is what the Officer of the Day gives to announce his intention to conduct Grand Rounds. Grand Rounds is the name for inspecting the Guard. Countersigns will not be used on Friday.
12. The Brigade Officer of the Day will report to the Chief of Staff prior to assuming his duties and at the conclusion of his watch.
