ANTIETAM
What can be said?
Rivals, if not beats, '88 Gettysburg. We'll talk about
this one forever. Almost made up for evil eastern events
of the recent past. Notice I said "almost," you
guys did great. Enough cannot be said for the individual
and collective efforts expended by the soldiers of the
Cumberland Guard. It was noticed by all and more than a
few came to me to complement your battlefield demeanor
and camp impression. Ah yes, the largest brigade and the
least canvas. Not bad for a dissident splinter group.
SOME RANDOM OBSERVATIONS
1. Did you know that I was unemployed for Saturday's action? Until I objected, 2nd Battalion was assigned to USV Colonel Ayres and 1st Battalion was assigned to the 4th Brigade under (gulp), Christian. Well, with help from division commander Valuska, General Himes, the overall, remembered a phone conversation we had 2 months ago and all was well. But it don't stop there.... On Sunday afternoon, our buddy Christian approaches Bill Holschuh of Camp Chase. His troops had been parceled out and he was unemployed. Well, he boasted how he did not complain or object, unlike certain other people. Bill, if I knew it was that easy to unemploy you as a commander, I would have personally invited you to every event I attended this year. Won't you and your troops please come back to Billie Creek?
2. Oh well, it's just too easy. I've written up my after action report as I saw it. I understand that you may have been at a different battle than the one I describe, but that's half the fun. Keep that in mind as you read diaries, etc. And believe all that is said as gospel.
