You journey down the seemingly endless corridor and begin to walk faster, seeing as how you probably don't have much time left before the captain and his crew abandon you to whatever evil lurks about this place. Suddenly, you trip against some sort of raised stone tile slab clumsily set into the floor. Your torch goes flying out of your hand and lands in a puddle of water somewhere across the hall. Your light is extinguished and you suddenly dispair. You carry no matches with you, and no flint either. Your only hope is to turn around and try to make your way back to the entrance of the castle.
You use the wall to help raise yourself back up to your feet, but oddly enough, it seems that the wall is no longer smooth and straight. You run both your hands over it blindly. After touching for a minute, you deduce that it is a boulder jutting out of the wall. Strange, you think. Why on earth would some architect just stick a rock in a castle wall? You shrug it off and begin to walk off, hoping you are going in the right direction when abruptly, the stone beneath your hand begins to move.
You pull back immediately in a reflex, but not quickly enough. Something grabs your wrist painfully and throws you down to the ground. You look up, futilely trying to see what you have come across now. An unholy light illuminates the boulder, which is moving ever so slightly as if it were breathing. As if it were alive. The rock cracks open and shifts roughly to form a humanoid shape. There is only one such creature you have ever heard of--a Gargoyle.
Its glowing eyes open and stare at you directly. Its face opens to revealing a maw of razor sharp teeth glittering in the devilish light. The Gargoyle stands and stretches to its full height, at least twice your size. You huddle against the wall, praying that it doesn't see you, which seems highly unlikely. It settles back down onto its seat, and watches you. Then the Gargoyle reaches out towards you with both clawed hand and teeth dripping saliva. The last thing you hear is your own scream before your vision dims to an agony-filled haze.
