Golfodulcean Poison Frog

(Phyllobates vittatus)

 

Classification: Anura Dendrobatidae

Size: Pacific species; males 22.5 - 26mm in length, females 26 - 31mm in length. Alantic species; males 18.5 - 21mm in length, females 21 - 23.5mm in length

Color: Bright metallic orange dorsal stripes on black back and finely dotted bright green hind legs.

Biology: 10 to 20 eggs hatching in 14 to 18 days. Metamorphosis takes about 40 days and froglets mature in about 1 year.

Habitat: lowland rainforest

Note: The P. vittatus is closely related to the Caribbean P. lungubris that once were considered to be a single species. Also sounds are from the N. American swamps and not from the rainforest.
