Phantasmal Poison Frog
(Epipedobates tricolor )
Classification:
Anura DendrobatidaeSize: Mature @ 16.5 to 26.5 mm in length.
Color: Dark brown (almost black) background with green stripes. Captive bred offspring tend to be a lighter brown or even bright red with white stripes.
Biology: 15 to 40 eggs hatching in 10 to 16 days. Metamorphosis takes about 50 days.
Habitat: Common in many types of wet and dry forest from only 150 meters to over 1700 meters.
Note: This frog adjusts well in terrariums and respond to the most minimal care. The frog pictured is Fred who died after 8 years in my care. This was also the first dart I obtained. When I first started I didn't know about raising fruit flies, so I spent most of my afternoons after work catching bugs in the yard. Also sounds are from the N. American swamps and not from the rainforest.
