Lurena Tolle was born 8 Jul 1854 in Highland County, Ohio, the daughter of Rachel Ann (Naylor) and Harrison Tolle. The name appeared as "Louise" on 1880 census, and "Lorana" in a bio of her father. She married on 1 May 1884 in Highland County, Ohio to Elijah Starr Matthews. Elijah was born 8 Apr 1848, the son of Jane (Starr) and William Matthews. Lurena and Elijah had 5 children. Elijah died on 31 May 1917 and Lurena died on 31 Dec 1929. They are buried in the Woodville Cemetery in Warren County, Ohio. (Section 12, lot 38, graves 7 & 8)

Stephen O. Tolle was born about 1827, the son of Lovey H. (Tolle) and James Tolle. He married Angeline Barker on 25 Aug 1847 in Brown County, Illinois. It is possible that her name was Sarah Angeline. They were married by his uncle C.J.Tolle. Stephen was a soldier in the Civil War in Company D, 84th Illinois Infantry from 21 Jul 1862 to 8 Jun 1863. Stephen and Angeline had 10 children. Angeline died on 30 Sep 1885 in Norton County, Kansas. and was buried in the Butler Cemetery in Crystal Township (Deal & Watton Cemetery). Stephen married again in Feb 1887 to a woman who may have been named Eugenia or Jennie who died in May of 1906. On 10 May 1889 he applied for a Civil War Pension (app# 704666-cert# 460845). At the age of 82 he was found on the 1910 census in the house of his daughter Martesia Shicks in Decatur County, Kansas. He died on 20 Aug 1910 in the soldiers home at Quincy in Adams County, Illinois. He may have been there from May to his death. His body was returned to Decatur County, Kansas. He was said to have been buried in the Norcatur Cemetery, but on my visit there I was unable to locate his grave. He has an interesting probate record in Brown County, Illinois. It contains lots of receipts and bills. (see source #19)

  • LOVEY JANE TOLLE8 born about May 1850 in Brown County, Illinois; aka "Jane"; She married a man named Miller and had two daughters suranamed MILLER: Cora & Maud. Maud married Sam Potter and lived in Los Angele. Lovey Jane may have died before 1910 probably in Denver, Colorado.
  • LOUIS K. TOLLE8 born probably after 1850 in Brown County, Illinois and died young.
  • ARTEMUS TOLLE8 born about 1856, probably in Brown County, Illinois; She married in Grundy County, Missouri to Albrey J. Trick. He was born 1851, son of Fannie (Dayment) and John Trick. Artemus and Albrey had 4 children surnamed TRICK: Nora, Charles, Clarence, and Vera Nellie. Artemus died before 1910, probably in Chicago and Albrey died in 1915.
  • MORTILIA/MARTHA TOLLE8 born 1858 in Grundy County, Missouri; Married about 1880 to John A. Shick and they had 6 children surnamed SHICK; Hiram Albrey, Ostin J, Earl, Lillian, and two whos names are unknown. John Shick was born in 1855 and died in 1897; Mortilia died in 1916 and they are both buried in the Norcatur Cemetery, in Decatur County, Kansas.
  • VIOLA TOLLE8 born about 1861 in Grundy County, Missouri; married James C. Neal; They were living in Blue Springs, Nebraska in 1910; no further info.
  • VINA EUPHAMA TOLLE8 born about 1863 in Grundy County, Missouri; aka "Euphema" and also "Fannie"; married a man named Branson and had two sons surnamed BRANSON: O.L. (Olie) and Clifton. She died before 1910.
  • JAMES HIRAM TOLLE8 born about 1866 in Grundy County, Missouri; aka "Jim". He married on 21 Apr 1895 in Decatur County, Kansas. He was living in Salt Lake City, Utah in 10, and moved to Los Angeles, California about 1920. No known children.
  • LUVENA T. TOLLE8 born about 1870 in Grundy County, Missouri; married a man named Hickey and was living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1910; no further info.

Noah Francis Tolle was born 28 Apr 1868 Adams County, Ohio, son of Sarah (Newland) and Jose Tolle Jr. He married on 27 Feb 1887 in Adams County to Nancy Ann McClanahan and they had 12 children. Nancy was born 17 Nov 1870 in Adams County, Ohio, the daughter of Rachel (Varvel) and William McClanahan. Noah died 12 Aug 1908 and is buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Peebles, Adams County, Ohio. Nancy died on 11 Feb 1931 in Clinton County, Ohio and is buried with her husband.

Alva and Bessie had 11 children surnamed TOLLE: Hartzel Edward, Olen, George Milton, Murl, Denver Clinton, Mary Elizabeth, Florabell, Rosa Florence, Lloyd Ervin, William Perlee, and Joseph Leon. Bessie died in May 1953 and is buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington, Ohio. Alva married again to Laura Leeth on 22 Jan 1957 at Waverly, Ohio. He died on 20 Mar 1965, and is buried in the Locust Grove cemetery in Franklin Township, Adams County, Ohio. (the tombstone reads 1886-1965) His second wife died 13 Aug 1969 and is buried in Springfield, Ohio.
  • MINNIE AGNES TOLLE8 born 16 Jan 1890 Adams County, Ohio; married on 18 Jan 1905 in Adams County to Aaron Ode Barney; They had 3 children surnamed BARNEY: Earl Francis, Oscar Edward, and Pearl Marie. Minnie died on 30 Sep 1965 (obit in source 23) and Aaron Ode on 20 Nov 1967 and are buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Adams County, Ohio.

Carey married on 11 Dec 1920 in Adams County, Ohio to Edna Faye Hughey Caplinger. She was the daughter of Sarah Ann (Hughey) and Landon Caplinger. Carey and Edna had 5 children surnamed TOLLE: Gerald Edmund, Helen Imogene. Anna Lee, Alton Meryl, and Carey Jr. Carey David died 29 Mar 1974 and was buried with military rites at the graveside, and Edna died on 2 Feb 1991. She was born 23 Sep 1912, the daughter of Teny Ann (Baisden) and John Floyd Workman. They had 15 children surnamed TOLLE: Anna Lucille, Ralph Eugene, Mary Jane, Thomas Russell, Robert Leroy, Berlin Glenn, Vernie Allen, Harley Dale, Mack Arthur, Floyd Frances, Carl Ray, Herman Leonard Jr, Roland Dean, Norman Earl, and Janice Fay. Herman died 19 Jan 1979 and is buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Franklin Township, Adams County, Ohio. (see obit in source 17)
  • VINA MARIE TOLLE8 born 14 May 1896 Adams County, Ohio. She married first Samuel Frank Curtis on 27 Oct 1913, but he was killed in a train wreck. She married 2nd on 11 Nov 1920 in Campbell County, Kentucky to Charlie C. George. and they had 3 children surnamed GEORGE: Anna Louise, Georgie C., and Tommie C.. Charlie died in November of 1946, but Vina lived to celebrate her 100th birthday on 14 May 1996. She survived all of her siblings, but she also passed away on 19 Nov 1997.
  • JOHN ARTHUR TOLLE8 born 4 Mar 1898 Adams County, Ohio. He married on 11 Nov 1920 in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky to Elizabeth Elsie Marie Damron. She died in 1926 and he married a second time to Violet Geneva Setty on 19 Mar 1929 in Wilmington, Ohio. She was born 19 Sep 1911, the daughter of Maud (Cadwallader) and John Setty. They had 12 children surnamed TOLLE: Chester Brice, Marie, Pearl, Juanita, John E., James, Noami Cleo, Eunice, Shirley June, Gary Dean, Judy Kay, and Janette. They were married for 47 years when Maud died in 1977. John lived to the age of 92 and died on 16 Jul 1990 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Adams County, Ohio.   • CHARLES EDWARD TOLLE8 born 9 May 1900 Adams County, Ohio. He married on 19 Oct 1923 to Rhoda Florence Caplinger. They had one daughter Norma Willidean Tolle. John Tolle was born 11 Jan 1832, the son of Lovey H. (Tolle) and James Tolle. He married on 8 Apr 1857 in Brown County, Illinois to Sarah Elizabeth Barker. She was born 12 Jul 1841, daughter of Eliza (?) and Crawford Barker. John and Sarah had 9 children. He moved with his parents to Brown County in the early 1830's and grew up there. On 3 Nov 1856 he bought land in Grundy County, Missouri. He can be found there in the 1860 thru 1870 census, but by 1880 he was living in Decatur County, Kansas. He can also be found on the 1885 and 1895 State Census of Decatur County. During the Civil War, he had served the Union in Company D, 84th Illinois Infantry, and on 31 Aug 1885 he applied for a pension (app# 548469-cert# 414891). After his death, his widow also applied on 12 Mar 1900 (app# 715178-cert# 655315). John died on 4 Feb 1900 and Sarah died on 3 Jan 1930. They are both buried in the Norcatur Cemetery, in Norcatur, Decatur County, Kansas. His will was filed for probate on 27 Feb 1900.

  • CAROLINE TOLLE8 born about 1864. Married Feb 1886 in Decatur County, Kansas to Ludwig Fisher and they had 3 children surnamed FISHER: Sarah S., Fannie, and an unknown child.
  • ELIZA TOLLE8 born about 1865. She married in Feb 1892 in Decatur County, Kansas to Alexander McCoy. They had 3 children surnamed McCOY: Leone B., Sarah, and Maude. She died after 1932.
  • NANCY TOLLE8 born about 1867. She married John K. Jones and they had 3 children surnamed JONES: Rena, Oscar A., and Sarah Ellen. She died after 1932.
  • LAURA TOLLE8 born May 1870. She was the second wife of James Lanon Masterson and they married in March 1909. I don't know of any children. Laura died 5 Jun 1939 in Fairfield, Nebraska.
  • JOHN OSCAR TOLLE8 born Apr 1874, aka "Oscar". He married on 14 Apr 1897 in Norton County, Kansas to Harriet Salina Page. She was born 7 Apr 1874, daughter of Apsela (Soverns) and John Edgar Page. They had 6 children surnamed TOLLE: Eunice A. Jemmie; Maude E., Chester J., Dwight S., and Joyce Maxine. Harriet died 27 Feb 1931 and John died on 10 Jan 1953 and they are buried in the Norcatur cemetery, Decatur County, Kansas.
  • ANNA AUGUSTA TOLLE8 born after 1876 in Grundy County, Missouri. She married first to her second cousin William Ancel Tolle. The married on 4 Sep 1901 in Decatur County, Kansas and had one son Frank J. TOLLE. They divorcd and on 5 Jul 1917 she married Merit Wilson Reid. Anna died after 1930.
  • MARY ETTA TOLLE8 born about 1879 in Grundy County, Missouri. She married in March 1917 to James Hart. I don't know of any children.

Emma Isadore was born 6 Aug 1871 in Adams County, Ohio, daughter of Sarah (Newland) and Jose/Joseph Tolle Jr. She married on 14 Aug 1887 in Adams County, Ohio to John Franklin McClanahan. He was known as "Frank" McClanahan and was born 19 Apr 1868, son of Rachel (Varvel) and William McClanahan. They had one child, and Emma died on 19 Apr 1889. She is buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Adams County, Ohio. Frank married again in 1891 to Ida Jaclane Tolle and after her death in 1896, he married Lamira Ethel Tolle. He had more children. Frank died on 21 Dec 1936 and is buried in the Clarksville Cemetery in Clinton County, Ohio.

  • ADA ESTELLA McCLANAHAN8 was born 18 Oct 1887. She married first to Charles Edward Crothers and they had 3 children surnamed CROTHERS: Mildred, Russell Milton, and Eva Mae. Emma and William had 8 children surnamed STEPHENSON: Ivan Ollie, Mary Ellen, Denver, Kenneth Wayne, Birdie Inez, Ruth Mirella, Joseph, and Ruby Eileen.     William A. Tole was born about 1830 in Perry County, Tennessee, son of Elizabeth (?) and Jonathan Tolle. William and his descendants used the TOLE spelling. He married about 1835 to Zuridicy Sharp. She was known as Dicy, born Sep 1836 and daughter of Eliza (Mayfield) and James Sharp. William and Dicy had a total of 12 children. Their youngest child was only about 8 or 10 when William died and the exact date is unknown. Dicy died about 1902 in Cooke County, Texas.
