Stephen O. Tolle was born about 1827, the son of Lovey H. (Tolle) and James Tolle. He married Angeline Barker on 25 Aug 1847 in Brown County, Illinois. It is possible that her name was Sarah Angeline. They were married by his uncle C.J.Tolle. Stephen was a soldier in the Civil War in Company D, 84th Illinois Infantry from 21 Jul 1862 to 8 Jun 1863. Stephen and Angeline had 10 children. Angeline died on 30 Sep 1885 in Norton County, Kansas. and was buried in the Butler Cemetery in Crystal Township (Deal & Watton Cemetery). Stephen married again in Feb 1887 to a woman who may have been named Eugenia or Jennie who died in May of 1906. On 10 May 1889 he applied for a Civil War Pension (app# 704666-cert# 460845). At the age of 82 he was found on the 1910 census in the house of his daughter Martesia Shicks in Decatur County, Kansas. He died on 20 Aug 1910 in the soldiers home at Quincy in Adams County, Illinois. He may have been there from May to his death. His body was returned to Decatur County, Kansas. He was said to have been buried in the Norcatur Cemetery, but on my visit there I was unable to locate his grave. He has an interesting probate record in Brown County, Illinois. It contains lots of receipts and bills. (see source #19)
