This time it was the Brits v Axis and much fun had by the Brits. We took off en masse and i found there was no radar! Brilliant! you could hit f10 and only see your position. added a whole new element and i loved it - is that dot friendly? hehe. Here a not so friendly dot turns out to be a 109. but everyone fearing dots has come up with a new tactic not often seen in open scenarios...
...staying together! OK its seen in scenarios but not in this kind of free for all - i think the lack of radar really promoted this sense of 'team' - this 109 diving into us also promoted a sense of 'who can get him first?'
And it wasnt me. Dont know who got him, but he didnt quite make it into the Flak trap he was leading to. The sides did seem to be weighted in favour of the Brits - with 2 lives and a 30 minute regeneration things were sparse half way through when all the Stukas, JU88's and single escorts had been killed.
So there i was, tooling happily along at 20k when i see 2 dots below me, right on the floor. Could it be? i go down with hope in my heart and God is kind. 2 88's on a run. What a buzz, radio position and in we go, the gunners ping me but...
smoked! one engine stopped and smoke trailing, the other 88 goes low and heads for target, but this guys done. i finish him in a second, taking another couple of pings and the rest of the flight is behind me to finish the other guy. 3 109's later im shot out of the sky by a gunner in another 88 5 minutes before it all ends. The Axis did manage to destroy a base but it was too late and the allies won. This is what i hope automated scenarios are like. If you're free on sunday (and wednesday i think) come along. Its a riot.
