On 6/29/98
a wonderful young woman passed from this life... her name was
Shannon Scribner... she fought a courageous battle against cancer
for many years... I will be including some of her poetry over
the next few weeks, not because she is gone, but because her
written works should be enjoyed...
In the Gloomy corner of despair, I sit,
Alone and shaking.
What shreds of hope I once had are now but threadbare memories.
The sun rising in the east, is all I have to look forward to.
But another day is only more time to wait.
More time to wither away.
Until at last a blessed peace will carry me off to another time.
Another place.
I would end this pain myself,
But such is a sin.
My family has long gone.
Still in existence, yes,
But their love has ceased.
Their attentions deteriorated some time ago.
For I am a burden.
Nothing but a lump of valueless flesh.
It is tragic.
I will not look down on them and weep with pride.
I will not look down at all.
I will sit among the clouds,
In my rocking chair,
And sing the sweet lullabies of my time.
A time so long ago,
Yet so fresh in my aging mind.
A day or night does not pass,
When I do not fall to my bony arthritic knees,
And pray to God above to take my mortal soul.
I pray, and sit
In the gloomy corner of dispair.
