General | Human Enemies | Land Dwellers | Water Dwellers | Air Dwellers

General

- Whenever you are in direct combat, use mid-gauge weapons (i.e.- auto pistols). Whenever you are in indirect combat, use low gauge weapons. (This holds true most of the time).

- The locking feature in Tomb Raider is very handy. When you shoot at something and then it moves to where you can't hit it, Lara will stop shooting, but track the enemy wherever it moves and whatever range it's at. As soon as the enemy shows it's face again, Lara will fire. To make this work you must start to fire at something and continue to hold the fire button. The camera should move with the movement of the enemy. Use this feature whenever possible.

- Try to use pistols whenever possible. You have unlimited ammo, so why not use it?

- Keep moving at all times (unless, of course, space prevents you). This is one of the things you'll have to get good with in order to be able to fight well.

- Keep shooting at your enemy nonstop. Use the locking feature (described above) to keep a lock when it moves off screen.

- Never run directly at your enemy. If you must, angle yourself to that you'll fly right next to him.

- Get to a point where the threat of the enemy is reduced (i.e.- ledge, block, etc.)

Humans

- Use high gauge weapons (i.e.- uzis) for direct combat or combat with armed enemies. Use low gauge weapons (i.e.- pistols) for distant combat or with unarmed enemies.

- Keep moving. You won't get hit as often because it's harder for enemies to target you.

- If space permits, jumping can be a very useful tactic. Using different combinations of jumps can save you lots of life.

- If your enemy is unable to physically reach you because of an obstacle such as a pit or barrier, jumping from sideflips while shooting will prove useful in avoiding bullets.

- If you are in a narrow hallway and don't have a lot of room to move around, an effective tactic is to face your enemy and backflip down the hallway while firing.

- A useful but sometimes difficult maneuver is to turn around in mid-jump. This is accomplished by running at your enemy while firing and jumping over his head just before you collide. Just after you press jump, press the roll button and Lara will twist 180 degrees. You can now continue to fire upon your enemy while he is faced the other way.

- If you are fighting in a close combat situation and your enemy is unarmed, running in large circles is an effective way of dealing with him.

Land Dwellers

- These animals are usually very fast so if possible, keep moving.

- If there is a ledge or balcony or even just a block to climb on, try to get onto it. The animals will not be able to hit you but you'll be able to blast away from safety.

- Try to stay away from them whenever possible. Listen for their screams or barks.

- Usually, you should use low gauge weapons unless you are in direct combat.

Water Dwellers

- Most of these animals will not be able to catch you if you swim in a straight course.

- The harpoon gun should only be used for emergencies. It is very ineffective and you get close to no harpoons. It is also inaccurate so you end up wasting harpoons too.

- If it is not necessary to kill them, just leave them alone. You usually don't have to stay in the water for a very long time so you should be back on land by the time they catch up.

- Changing directions while swimming gives these animals a chance to catch up to you and strike.

- If at all possible, climb out of the water and shoot them with low gauge weapons

Air Dwellers

- There aren't too many of these animals, but they still pose a threat to Lara.

- If you spot them from a distance, which you normally do, use low gauge weapons because they're pretty easy to kill.

- There's only one real warning for these things and that's to expect them to appear in odd places or where you would really not like them to show up.

Basic Hints

- The Most Important Hint: EXPLORE. Explore the same place over and over again. Going back will, many times, help you discover hidden switches or blocks that will lead you where you want to go. Even if you are absolutely sure that there is nothing in or around a certain spot or room, go back and check again. If you have to, run around the walls seaching each space for something helpful. Also, look above yourself. Often you will find something new. Another reason to keep exploring is that often times, something will seem unimportant so you disregard and forget about it, only to find out later that it was important. Then you can't remember what or where it is.

- Look for odd cracks, crevices, holes, or platforms. Usually they have a purpose.

- If you miss a jump or don't pass an obstacle on the first try, don't believe that it can't be done. If it looks like you can make it, it's probably true.

- Time doesn't play a large roll in Tomb Raider, so you don't have to move fast. The only importance of moving fast, that I see, is so you can take a screen shot of your time to earn bragging rights.
