I don't like country music, but hearing country mixed with rock and Mike singing it makes me like his style of music. Mike was the only Monkee who answered the ad in the paper for the audition and the producers liked him, which is good because if they hadn't liked him, we would have no Michael Nesmith. He was immediatly dubbed "Woolhat" by the producers because of the green wool hat he wore to keep the hair out of his eyes when he was riding his motorcycle. He didn't really like the nickname but I guess it kind of grew on him. Mike basically got along with the other Monkees except Peter. For some strange reason, Mike didn't like Peter. But he had to get along with him for the sake of the show. They got in fights over musical directions the Monkees should be heading in and Mike always seemed to win. Mike always butted heads with the producers for musical control and eventually he got the Monkees the musical control they wanted. He sang some really moving songs such as "If I Ever Get to Saginaw Again". "You Just May be the One" was another good Mike song. Michael was definitly a very good addition to the Monkees.
