BSB Concert Review!

Our cousins picked us up at 7:00 p.m. to go to the concert. We had
expected to be at Skydome by 7:30 p.m. since its only a half-hour
drive to Downtown. Anyway, we got to the Gardiner Expressway at
around 7:15 - 7:20 but there was a huge traffic jam that we were stuck
there for about 25 minutes. We were all getting worried that we might
be late for the concert and you know what the irritating part was? The
fact that we were right beside the Skydome. We could have just
gotten off the van and walked, but that was a high way, we couldnt.

We made it to Skydome at 7:50 p.m. We were running to Gate 12
when we noticed a group of people surrounding whom we assumed to
be the Backstreet Boys signing autographs because everyone was
screaming their heads off and flashes were seen. We didnt bother
stopping just to get a glimpse of the Boys because we still had to look
for our seats, and Skydomes a humongous place! A couple of
minutes after we had seated, the opening act started at exactly 8:00
p.m. It wasnt Glen Lewis who opened for the Boys, but this girl who
sings dance music. I know the songs she sang (she sang
4-5 songs!) but I just dont remember the titles. She finished her songs
at 8:15, so obviously the fans were expecting the Backstreet Boys to
come on anytime soon.....WRONG! The Backstreet Boys came on at
exactly 9:00. We waited for 45 mins. and during that time interval, I
was getting really annoyed. Once in a while, the fans would chant,
We want Backstreet! We want Backstreet! or Backstreet Boys!
Backstreet Boys! We also did the wave about 5x because we were
all so bored. The people around me (especially my cousin Kristen)
was saying how the concert sucked and that they wanted their money
back. I totally agree with them, their tardiness got to me and I was
about ready to get up and leave. Smoke would come out from the
stage and everyone would start screaming because we thought the
Boys were gonna come out. Or someone would move the
curtain from the inside and everyone would scream. Finally, one guy
came out and asked the fans with bears to throw the stuff toys to the
stage at the time, but hold the roses. Boy, you should have seen how
many teddy bears were tossed around and flew to the stage. After all
the stuff toys were put in a garbage bag, the lights wre dimmed. What
followed that happened so fast that I dont know if Im gonna be able to
tell all of it in detail, but Ill try.

There was no introduction whatsoever (none that I can remember).
The lights came on and the Backstreet Boys came up in track suits
and started singing Thats The Way I Like It. Everyone was screaming
so loud! We were sitting on the far right side of the stage (by the way,
only half of Skydome was used which seated approximately 25, 000
people, but they werent filled....so about 23 - 24,000 people were
there!), so we couldnt really see the large screen but we managed.
Besides, Brian was always on the far right side of the stage and he
would occassionally look that way and stay there for a while, which
would make the girls scream their heads off. I was screaming, too,
especially whenever Brian is shown by himself on the big screen.
After that, they sang I Wanna Be With You and
Hey, Mr DJ... Before the end of Hey, Mr DJ..., Howie had already
gone backstage to change. During the first three songs, I dont
remember what colour everyone had on, but I do remember Brian
having had yellow track suit on, Nick white, and AJ blue. I remember
the 3 of them because the screams were the loudest when either one
of these 3 were shown on the big screen. Anyway after this song,
Howie came out wearing an all white costume with roses on his
hands. He said that each of them was going to sing solos and the title
of his song was My Heart Stays With You. He sang it so beautifully,
and between verses, he would always say, My heart stays
with you Toronto wherever I go! while giving out roses to the lucky
fans who got the front row tickets. AJ came on after, singing the song
Lay Down Beside Me. He was awesome as well. He left his shirt
unbuttoned the whole time and this made the fans go crazy! Then
Kevin came on and sang Nobody But You. He rapped in the
beginning, he was great. His cousin Brian was after him. Now this
guy had his own style! He came out with a guitar and said, Im gonna
do something a little different. Im gonna sing a song that I wrote called
Thats What She Said. I just went crazy after that! I spent the rest of
the concert either singing along or screaming my head off so loud that
I could tell the person sitting beside me got deaf. Brian sang his song
while playing the guitar. He was so beautiful! Hes got the most
beautiful voice I have ever heard! AJ sang beautifully,
too. I remember when he (AJ) started singing the first verse of Hey Mr
DJ, everyone was like, Ohhh.... because he sang with such a
heart-warming voice. Anyway, getting back to the solos.....Nick sang
his song after Brian. Nick sang a very nice song, but I dont know the
title of the song and he didnt say what it was (they usually let the
audience know the title of their songs!). It was a rather short song and
they went straight to Lets Have A Party. It was the same performance
as the concert in Germany. Then they started singing Quit Playin
Games, but the band were hitting the wrong notes. The Boys had to
stop twice, but it was just a part of the concert. The BSB ended up
playing the instruments while singing the song. Nick was on drums,
Kevin on the keyboards, AJ on the bass guitar, Howie on
the regular guitar, and Brian on (I dont know what its called!) this thing
that you tap. Moving on, before AJs part came on, the band members
came back out and Brian introduced them one by one. The Boys
took their place on the stage and danced as AJ sang his part and the
rest of the song. The Backstreet Boys went backstage adn Kevin
came out by himself and said that he was on the internet a couple of
days ago and was chatting with these girls. The girls wouldnt believe
it was Kevin from the BSB whom they were talking to. So to prove
that it was him, he promised he would mention them at the concert.
He said 3 names and said that it was really him who talked
with them. Everyone screamed, I guess for those 3 lucky girls. Then
AJ came out and asked us if we liked their 2nd album. Of course we
did! So he said to guess their next song. They sang All I Have To
Give. What wicked moves they got there! You know how they had
chairs in As Long As You Love Me? Well, they have hats on this one.
Anyway, just like the concert in Germany, Kevin had an introduction
for their next song which was Anywhere For You. Also in the middle of
the song, Kevin came down from the stage and started shaking hands
with the fans. But he only stayed on the right side of the stage.
Afterwards, stools were brought out and I thought they were going to
sing a capella. Well, they did.....a tad bit. They sang the words Ill
never break your heart a capella then went straight to the song. And
at the end of the song Ill Never Break Your Heart, each of them sang
adlibs to the song starting with Nick, then Howie, Brian, AJ, and Kevin
did the talking part which was supposed to be in the beginning. Again
they sang the words Ill never break your heart a capella. Then they
sang As Long As You Love Me. They did exactly the same at the
European MTV Awards, but this time, they sang the whole song.

What they did with the chairs was really slick! After ALAYLM,
everybody went backstage, even the band. We thought the concert
was over because before they left, the BSB said their thank yous
already. The fans stuck around and were chanting, Backstreet Boys,
Backstreet Boys! Before long, the BSB were back and they sang Get
Down and went straight to We've Got It Goin On. Then, they went
backstage again. On the big screens, they showed the beginning of
the extended version of Everybody as well as the last part (the talking
parts!). The lights came on and the BSB started singing the song.
Before they sang the very last part where AJ sings on top of the
others, they first danced the dance they did at the beginning of the
concert in Germany. Anyway, after Everybody, the Boys
took a bow and thats when I knew for sure that it was finished.

The concert all in all was okay. I mean, it was pretty good but I think
it could have been better. I was really disappointed that they didnt
sing a capella, considering the fact the a capellas known to be their
trademark. But it seemed like the Backstreet Boys fans enjoyed
themselves. Everyone was screaming so loud, but we could still hear
them sing. By the song Lets Have A Party, we could tell that Nick had
already lost his voice, but he still sang well. During the song Ill Never
Break Your Heart, at the end when they were singing some words a
capella, Brian pointed the microphone to the audience to finish the
song for them, but we were all so busy screaming that we didnt sing.
So AJ was like, Uh-oh, didnt work! And Brian said, Because they
were busy screaming! Lets try this again....Id rather die than live
without.... and we finished the song for them. Anyway, the concert
ended at 10:40 p.m. I dont know if the Backstreet Boys came back
out after they took the bow, because one of my cousins had a
stomach ache so we had to leave right away. Heres a funny
story: my other cousin complained of having a tummy ache in the
middle of the concert, so I was like, Oh, shoot! Please tell me this is
not happening! so I told her to unzip her coat and I would take her to
the washroom. Then the Backstreet Boys came back out and my
cousin said her tummy ache was gone. Anyway, like I said in the
beginning, the screams were really loud whenever Nick, AJ, and Brian
were shown on the big screen, but it was the loudest for Nick (gee, I
wonder why!). One thing I really regret about this concert was not
bringing my camera with me. It said on the ticket that no camera or
any recording devices were allowed in Skydome, but I saw a lot of
flashes during the concert. Besides, my other reason for not bringing
the camera was I was afraid we wouldt be able to see them anyway. I
mean, we were sitting on the 2nd level. But we could see them! We
couldnt see their faces but we could see them well enough to
know who was who. I expected the fans to be standing up during the
concert but no one was standing on our level. We were all sitting
down so no one was blocking our views. The fans on the front row
were of course standing up. They were so lucky because the Boys
would always come down and shake hands with them while the rest of
us just watched. And during the opening act, the fans were getting
really bored and it was so funny because she was singing dance
music. We just wanted her to finish so we could see the Backstreet
Boys. She probably noticed how quiet we were so she said she just
saw AJ and the rest of Backstreet Boys backstage and said they
couldnt hear us. When she said Backstreet Boys, the fans went
crazy. Anyhow, I thought Id lose my voice but guess not. I still have
my voice. When we first got outside, we couldnt hear that well and
our voices were kinda dry, but everythings back to normal now. Next
time I go to the Backstreet Boys concert, Ill make sure I get the front
row tickets.
