Houston Doubles For D.C. In New Thriller
By Bashirah Muttalib
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins and Joan Cusack, star in ``Arlington Road,'' which is set in Washington D.C. but is actually being filmed in Houston.
In the political psycho-thriller, Bridges plays a widowed college professor, living with his 10-year-old son. Befriended by new neighbors Robbins and Cusack, Bridges begins to suspect something is amiss after catching Robbins in little lies.
The Polygram film was set to shoot on location in the spring, but actor availability (the death of Bridges' father, Lloyd, and Cusack's attendance at the Oscars) have delayed shooting until winter.
Houston's climate and architectural landscape fit the bill for springtime Washington, in contrast to Florida and California, with their abundance of palm trees.
Former music video director Mark Pellington, who made his feature debut with ``Going All The Way,'' will direct the film from a script by first-time scribe Ehren Kruger.
The Houston Museum of Natural Sciences will sub for a Washington museum, and One Shell Plaza for Washington's FBI building. The $35 million film is expected to be in theaters for Christmas.
