This is how I handled the reloaction of the Toyota transfer case shifter for my V8/SM420 conversion. First, I would like to thank Shane Poston for his help, I borrowed a lot of ideas from him. Anyhow, my uncle, (hereinafter known as "Mike") who helped me with the engine, and I put our heads together and this is what we came up with....

Hi/Low range linkage..
Okay, here goes, this is the original 3spd X-fer Hi/Low "bellcrank". We simply cut off the lower tab where the link to the shifter connects. Now we will take a 3/16" x 1" x 2.5" piece of steel and weld between the two pieces. Basically this just moves the lower ear of the bellcrank up 2.5 inches. See pic below.....

....This is what the finished product should look like. It raises the connection point for the original link just a bit above the drop arm for the 2whl/4whl linkage, to make sure it clears when shifting.

2whl/4whl shift linkage
This is the part I copied from Shane, Thanks Shane. It's easy to fab, I just bent and drilled some 3/16" x 1" steel to extend the drop-arm down to the plunger on the transfer case.

This linkage has performed flawlessly, not that it's been in long enough for real stress testing, but so far so good. The only drawback I see is with the extensions in place the shifer travel is greatly reduced. Seems like 2whl drive and 4whl are only a 1/2" apart on the shifter, no way to know just by glancing which one you're in.
