Separation Anxiety

Separation Anxiety

(Author's note: tell me what you think. Also, raise your hand if Griddlebone reminds you of Emerald!!!)

Tantomile had been running from the pollicle for at least three blocks. She was almost ran over twice from crossing a busy intersection, and nearly caused an accident. But, the pollicle wouldn’t relent, he was actually gaining speed. Tantomile decided to loose the pollicle by turning a sharp corner into an alley and hiding in a trash bin. The pollicle, in hot pursuit, rounded the corner, but was surprised to find no trace of Tantomile anywhere. Just as well, he thought, now I have to find food for the kids. He proceeded to exit the other end of the alley. Tantomile slumped out of her hiding spot. She was very relieved that she and her brother were safe.

Heavily panting, she asked Coricopat, “Well, I guess we got Griddlebone off our backs, didn’t we?” She expected to receive Coricopat’s response when she realized that Coricopat was not with her. She immediately got to her feet and began calling for her brother.

“Coricopat, where are you?, she cried. Out of no where, rain began to pummel Tantomile. She quick hid under a set of stairs to avoid being wet. She suddenly felt very scared for Coricopat. Coricopat, she thought to herself, where have you gone to? She attempted to contact her brother using telepathy, but after numerous tries she realized that she was unable to use her abilities. That’s odd, she thought, I’ve never been without my powers before. She looked around to take in her surroundings and find he way to the junkyard, hoping that he would be there. Tantomile had walked this street many times. Only this time, she had no idea where she was. She hadn’t the slightest clue on getting back to the junkyard.

“I don’t understand, every Jellicle has an inborn sense for where the junkyard is. Why can’t I use mine anymore?” her train of thought was broken by an incredibly voluminous shrill. The distant voice sounded familiar, but she couldn’t quite place the voice of the female. That certainly can’t be Coricopat, she thought. She couldn’t decide what to do next. She was very frightened to be without her brother. After much debating with herself, she finally decided to try and find her way blind through the streets. With every corner she turned, she seemed to be getting farther from the junkyard and her fears rising with every flash of lightning.

Coricopat persisted through the rain storm a very weak and very distraught Jellicle. He didn’t believe that he carried himself throughout the labyrinth of streets for this long. His from was pathetic. His graceful, masculine qualities no longer accompanied him on his dangerous journey. Feeling defeated, he let gravity overtake him and throw him to the concrete...

Alonzo ran from under porch awning to porch awning, trying very hard not to be rained on. HE muttered to himself, “Oh god, why water? WHY WATER? Today? Why today? Oh, here’s good old Alonzo, walking down the street, just trying to have a nice moment in the sun...WHEN A STUPID STORM HAD TO COME ALONG AND RUIN HIS DAY!!! STUPID STORM!!!” Alonzo began shouting at the sky. This was very unlike the cool, confident Alonzo to be shouting at the sky. However, it was like him to have a short temper, and the continuous beating of the chilling rained heated it up.

Alonzo came to the end of the porches, and attempted to jump onto a railing of another porch. Unfortunately , the rain had made the railing very slick, causing Alonzo to fall to the ground face first. He pulled himself up and rubbed his head and face, shouting to the angry clouds, “Didn’t hurt!” He was about to make his way onto another porch, when he caught the image of a motionless pile of rags in the distance. Funny, he thought, I’m picking up quite a familiar scent from it. As he approached the figure, he came to realize why the scent was familiar.

“Oh, god,” he started, “Coricopat!” He dashed to Coricopat’s withered form and nuzzled him, hoping to get a sign of life from him. He kept shouting, “CORICOPAT, WHY WON’T YOU WAKE UP?!” Frantic, he began shouting for help. When he cooled down and realized help was not on the way, he set the frail form on his back and ran as fast as he could back to junkyard. As he stopped at a traffic light, he heard a strange noise coming from a nearby drain in the gutter. Almost like a repetitive clicking, he thought. But, he passed inspecting it when the light changed green...

Griddlebone ached from the cold of the sewer. Her body shivered violently, trying to keep itself warm. The clattering of her teeth echoed off of the walls of the sewer with such percussion that Griddlebone felt that her ears would burst open bleeding.

“This is atrocious! To think, the most beautiful feline in the universe is reduced to crawling though the sewers of this rotten little city!!!” She took a moment to cool herself down. She continued, “Once my slave Elizabeth finds me, I’ll revive myself and get back at those two horrible Jellicles!” Then, she realized that she hadn’t carried out her intended mission. Oh, what he would do to her if her found out that she hadn’t...Griddlebone guffawed, and said, “Who am I kidding? I have much more power on my side than he does! I have him wrapped around my finger! If I wanted, I could crush him!!!!” She then pondered her last words. How could I do that, she asked herself. How could I do that to such a handsome, dark tom...Griddlebone came to her senses when more rushing water crashed down on her from the drain above.

“Oh!” She shouted, “Such a rude awakening!!!” Griddlebone moved down the sewer further, hoping to find an exit. As luck would have it, she had found an exit through a sewer pipe that lead out to a small brook by a road.

“Oh, how wonderful to be out of there!”

“There you are!”

Griddlebone turned around to find herself face to face with the same pollicle she had encountered before. Griddlebone let out a hideous shriek as she made her escape from the mighty form. The pollicle was hot on her trail however. As she turned a corner, she dived behind a fire hydrant to hide from the pollicle. The pollicle rounded the corner, and nearly passed Griddlebone--that is, until he had noticed the red hydrant. He sauntered over to hydrant and rounded it. At one point, he came nose to nose with Griddlebone. Don’t move, Griddlebone thought to herself, if you don’t move, he won’t notice you! Just like that movie. What is it, Jurassic something-or-other? As Griddlebone expected, the pollicle did pass up the chance to rip her to pieces. He had proceeded to lift his leg, however.

“OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!”

Alonzo, tired and soaked, entered the junkyard with the fallen form of Coricopat. All of the other Jellicles ran to the poor, tattered form and questioned Coricopat’s condition. Alonzo bypassed all of the others and ignored their questions and headed off for Munkustrap, with Coricopat in his arms.

Munkustrap rested on a broken chair atop a junk heap. He kept watch toward the sky as the storm began to dissipate. Not moment to soon either, he thought, things can only go up from this point on.

“Munkustrap!” A hysterical voice called. Munkustrap’s train of thought was broken and he looked down to see Alonzo holding the prone form. Munkustrap was taken aback by this awful sight and leaped from the chair to get a closer view of Coricopat. He examined the limp tom, and demanded, “What happened to him?!” Alonzo shook his head an said, “I don’t know! I only found him like this!” After finishing his examination, Munkustrap said grimly, “We have to see Mistoffelees. Alonzo sighed. This would not be the most convenient experience. It wasn’t the tom was harmful or threatening. The young Jellicle was very rambunctious at times, and surely he would be today.
