Roleplaying games are a unique form of entertainment, with a cross between improvisational acting, and writing a short story. Each player portrays a single character, or occasionally more, exept for one. This player, the Gamemaster, Referee, Storyteller, or whatever title the game uses, plays all the bad guys, men on the street, contacts, bystanders, and other individuals the players may meet during the course of the story, or adventure. He also comes up with the plots, or campaigns, and describes the scenes and actions to the players. Some individuals have the wrong idea about gamers. They rant and rave about how roleplaying games are the Devil's work, and how they lead to kids hacking at each other with real swords, as well as even sacrificing goats on Halloween. This is sheer propoganda. I am sure that in almost every such case blamed on roleplaying, the individuals involved were already mentally unbalanced, and chose the games to fixate upon. Such individuals have fixated upon even Jodie Foster, and we do not decry her as a threat to our children! One of my favorite forms of roleplaying is the LARP, or Live Action Role Play. In my case, the game of choice is Amtgard; this explains all the links on my main page. It is safe and fun, and more details can be gained at the Amtgard Home Page, a link to which is on my main page.
