Lone Star School, 1929. School located on a hill at Webster/
Hopkins County line. The school was cut off from the rest of
Webster County by the city of Providence. There, the school sat
all alone in that part of Webster County. Thus, the name Lone Star.
"In the Lone Star Schoolhouse, a big pot-bellied stove warmed the
children in the winter months. It never got too cold to go to
school in those days. A reading table was in front of the school
and children looked forward to going to the reading table. In some
years the younger children stayed outside and only went in to have
their lessons and then went back outside." (from a booklet prepared
for the Lone Star School Reunion, May 11, 1991.
