My Story
HI MY NAME IS PHILIP GREER, THIS A PHOTO OF MY DEER I TOOK ON NOV. 19 2001 AT
7:08 am. I TOPPED MY TREE AT 7:00 am. AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN HEARING SOUNDS OF
HEAVY MOVEMENT HEADING MY WAY AFTER A SERIES OF 15 OR 16 NON STOP BLOWS I WAS
GOOD AND NERVOUS NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS MAKING ALL THE NOISE. THERE WAS BARELY
ENOUGH LIGHT TO SEE THROUGH MY SCOPE, I THEN RELIZED THAT ALL THE BLOWS WERE
OVER MY 4WHEELER THAT WAS PARKED ABOUT 100YDS. TO MY LEFT. BY THIS TIME IT
WAS ABOUT 7:07 AND THEN I GOT MY FIRST SITE OF BROWN COMING THRU THE TREES,I
WAS ALREADY IN POSITION FOR A SHOT WHEN FINALY I SAW HER ,YES IT WAS A DOE,A
BIG DOE. SHE HEADED RIGHT TOWARD ME,I HAD SOME EARTH WAFERS ABOUT 15 TO 20
YDS. TO MY LEFT,SHE BOLTTED FOR THEM SHE THEN STUCK HER NOSE RIGHT TO THEM.
TOOK A DEEP DRAW OFF THE WAFER THEN TURNED THE WAY SHE CAME AND BLEW A LONG
QUEASY BLOW. I HAD SEEN MANY DEER THIS WHOLE SEASON BUT WAS TRYING TO WAIT ON
THE RUT, HOPING FOR A GOOD SIZE DEER (BUCK) BUT WAS ALSO IN NEED OF SOME
MEAT .BUT ONCE I HEARD THE DOE BLOW I DISREGARDED THE CHANCE OF IT BEING A
BUCK. SO I TOOK MY SHOT AND IT WAS A GOOD ONE SHE RAN MAYBE 30YDS. BY MY
TREE.I WAS HAPPY TO BE GETTING SOME MEAT. I TURNED TO REST MY RIFLE ACROSS MY
STAND.THEN THERE WAS THE SOUND OF LEAVES AND LIMBS TOO MY LEFT THE SAME AREA
THE DOE CAME FROM,SO I READIED MYSELF ONCE MORE. THE BRUSH WAS THICK AND ALL
I COULD SEE WAS A SMALL PIECE OF BROWN ON A HINDQUARTER THEN I HEARD A LOUD
BLOW, MAN WAS MY HEART RACING. THEN IT TOOK A STEP AND ALL I COULD SEE WAS
THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND THE TIP OF THE RACK, AT THE TIME IT LOOKED TO BE A
SCRUB 4 POINTER SO I SHOT AND IT ALSO WAS A GOOD ONE . I HEARD HIM RUN AND
DROP BUT COULD NOT SEE HIM. SO I WAITED 10MIN. THEN WENT TO GET MY
BROTHERINLAW WHO WAS HUNTING THAT MORNING. I KNEW I WOULD NEED SOME HELP
WITH TWO DOWN. SO I TOLD SPANKY(BRO.INLAW) I HAD SHOT A DOE AND A 4 POINTER.
WE GOT DOE FIRST,THEN WENT TO RETRIEVE THE BUCK. WHEN WE GOT TO HIM HE WAS NO
FOUR POINTER HE WAS A BIG TEN POINTER WITH A 19 1/2" INSIDE SPREAD WEIGHING
199lbs. I WAS BLOW AWAY, BECAUSE BOTH SHOTS WERE 45sec. APART. THE DOE WAS MY
FIRST DEER EVER TAKEN,AND THE BUCK WAS MY SECOND DEER EVER AND MY FIRST BUCK.
"WHAT A SEASON". NOT TO MENTION I ALSO TOOK A GREAT 8 POINTER FROM SAME STAND
1 MONTH LATER. BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST SEASON I HAD EVER HUNTED SO
SERIOUS,PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO MY SCENT,ALWAYS IN TREE BEFORE FIRST
LIGHT. HUNTING LONG AND HARD SURE PAID OFF FOR ME. THANKS FOR LETTING ME TELL
MY STORY. PHIL GREER
