Supertest Credit Cards
I have not been able to establish
the year that Supertest Petroleum Corp.
began to issue credit
cards , but this cardboard card must be one of the
earliest years. It is
in wonderful shape but I have digitally smeared the
owners name to "protect the
innocent". 1947 road maps make mention
of "Interchange of Credit Card
Facilities" with other oil companies.
Simply called a 1952
Credit Card , the back of this card bears
this description:
This card if
unexpired permits the purchase on credit , by the customer
named on the face hereof, of Supertest
Petroleum Products, Antifreeze,
Lubrication, Car Washing, new
Dominion or Dunlop Tires, and brands
of Batteries authorized
by the company at SUPERTEST stations and
authorized dealers displaying the
MAPLE
LEAF, and also of similar
products and services at stationsof
the companies below named , or their
approved dealers. Tires must be
mounted on and batteries attached to
motor vehicles at time of purchase.
In the U.S.A.: Sinclair Refining Company
Richfield Oil Corp. of New York
Sherwood Brothers Incorporated
Richfield Oil Corporation
Aetna Oil Comany Inc.
In CANADA : Superline

North Star Oil Limited
Home Oil Distributors Limited
Displayed below is another form of Supertest Credit Purchasing
These are called "CHARGIT Cheques" , later called "Travel Chex" .
This Booklet contains 30 pre-printed IBM Key Punch cards
The dealer would simply fill in the date and purchase amount
on the companies portion, as well as the customers stub, and
present it to the customer for their signature and licence number.
The last 3 cards in each book were to be used for Tires and Battery
and an option box could be checked for "Easy Payment Plan"
These IBM Key Punch Cards were pre-printed with the owners name
and acount number. The date shows these stubs was filled out in 1964.
My 1959 and 1968 Supertest Road Maps mention Chargit Checks but
they are not mentioned in the 1971 version.
Sample credit card for Mr. Modern Motorist
Expires 1963
"International Credit Card" was printed 10/64 and expired Dec 66
Again I have blacked out the original owners name and account
#.

holder
Called a International Travel Card , this card expires in December 1974.
The issue date on the back is 5/71 which is shortly before the November
merger with BP
The next printing of travel cards would see the familiar "All Canadian"
dropped from the logo.
Another name change. Now called a "Travellers Card"
The logos clearly show the merger of BP and Supertest
