Although we need high self-esteem for maximum health both physically
and mentally, we also need to realize that life is its own "gift" and
must be experienced as much in the present as possible. In a way then
we go beyond the psychological frame of self-esteem and with peace of
mind begin to concentrate on what we do in the present moment. To fully
appreciate the present moment takes not only awareness and practice of
this awareness, but also the objectivity to see all events as equal.
We cannot do this without first understanding that we are all of equal
value as living beings (spiritual beings). Then we must see that all
life is of equal value although varied in its activities.
Then we see
that the earth itself is sentient and has being (awareness) of its own.
It is from this position of thinking only that one can ever hope to attain
the objectivity to remain fully in the present moment. I do not believe
that any of us could remain fully in the present all the time, but it is
well worth the effort to relish as much of the present as possible.
Only then can we sense the magnitude of life and see it truly as the gift
it is.
