The vile Puritan lay slain,
the unblemished puritan lay in pain.
The ruthlessness of the minister was considered virtuous.
One man might be to blame, (if he did, he'd not be sane)
or one man may claim fame,
of this vile man's defeat.
A puritan, by definition,
was one who was scrupulously strict.
Was it that or were it they tricked?
Though ignorant, thickskulled and afraid,
the minister was the one who was paid.
The minister might have been vile himself,
but the seclusion of the people;
it made them all feeble.
The minister might have noticed this,
and taken advantage of this,
and some might have noticed this,
but if they spoke of this,
their backs would get whipped.
The tithing men collected the money,
the minions gave up their earthly currency,
but what does this do for them?
This gives them hope.
Hope for what?
Hope to be accepted.
