MY R1 ON THE DYNO
MY R1 - BONE STOCK
GREG CROWE'S R1 WITH THE ADDITION OF A VANCE & HINES SS2R SLIP-ON. THIS SLIP-ON WAS KIND OF A BASTARD CHILD CREATION. IT STARTED OUT AS A FZR1000 STANDARD BAFFLE SLIP-ON. THE REDUCER PIPE INSIDE WAS TAKEN OUT LONG AGO. WITH THE REDUCER PIPE GONE, THE CAN THEN BECOMES THE "RACE" VERSION. .018" SHIMS WERE USED WITH THE STOCK NEEDLES AND STOCK JETTING. THIS CAN WAS SO FREE FLOWING THAT BEFORE THE SHIMS WERE ADDED THERE WERE ONLY VERY SMALL GAINS FROM THE ADDITION OF JUST THE CAN. I RAN OUT OF DYNO TIME AND SUSPECT THAT MORE HP GAINS COULD BE REALIZED WITH LARGER SHIMS AND/OR 1 SIZE BIGGER MAIN JETS. I DECIDED NOT TO PURSUE THE TUNING OF THE SLIP-ON ANY FURTHER SINCE THE FULL SYSTEM HAS PROVEN TO PROVIDE SUCH HUGE GAINS.
THESE ARE THE DYNO CHARTS AFTER THE FINAL JETTING CHANGES WITH THE M4 FULL SYSTEM. I ALSO WANTED TO SEE THE EFFECTS OF LEADED RACE FUEL ON THE DYNO. EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS THAT EXTRA OCTANE OVER WHAT IS REQUIRED BY THE ENGINE WILL NOT PRODUCE ADDITIONAL HORSEPOWER. WHAT I WANTED TO SEE WAS IF A GOOD QUALITY LEADED RACE FUEL, IN THIS CASE PHILLIPS B-32, WOULD PRODUCE ANY ADDITIONAL HORSEPOWER GAINS. THE ANSWER.....NO. MY BIKE MADE EXACTLY 145.0 HORSEPOWER BOTH WITH 91 OCTANE UNLEADED PUMP GAS AND PHILLIPS B-32 LEADED RACE GAS. ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER WAS NOTICED OTHER THAN A VERY, VERY SMALL OFF IDLE STUMBLE WITH THE PHILLIPS B-32.
MY NEWEST DYNO CHARTS! MY R1 CONTINUES TO PICK UP HORSEPOWER. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS 148.1 HP CHART AND THE 145.0 CHART ABOVE? SIMPLE: BREAK-IN MILEAGE, THAT'S IT! THE 145.0 HP CHART WAS WITH 1600 MILES ON THE BIKE, 148.1 HP IS WITH 4100 MILES. THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS IS THAT THE ENGINE IS STILL BREAKING IN! BEFORE YOU EMAIL ME AND ASK - I'M USING MOBIL ONE OIL.
HERE'S A COMPARISON BETWEEN MY BIKE AT 1600 MILES AND AT 4100 MILES. THERE IS A SOLID 4-5 HP GAIN THROUGHOUT THE RPM RANGE. NOTICE HOW THE 145.0 HP FIGURE WAS A BIT PEAKY AND HOW THE 148.1 HP IS A MORE SOLID READING.
UPDATE: I NOW QUESTION THE VALIDITY OF THESE LAST DYNO CHARTS. RECENT
DYNO TESTING WITH NO CHANGES TO THE BIKE FAILED TO PRODUCE THESE RESULTS
AGAIN. MY LAST BASELINE TESTING WITHOUT ANY FURTHER MODS PRODUCED 146HP.
IS THE ENGINE STILL BREAKING IN? WERE THE CORRECTION FACTORS INACCURATE?
WAS THERE JUST TOO MUCH DIFFERENCE IN AIR QUALITY BETWEEN DAYS? YOUR GUESS
IS AS GOOD AS MINE.
HERE'S YOUR TRUE 148.1 HP. THIS WAS WITH THE ADDITION OF THE RHOM
PERFORMANCE MACHINE (RPM) ADJUSTABLE IGNITION ADVANCER AND THE K&N
FILTER. THIS LAST TEST HAS ME WONDERING ABOUT THE ACCURACY OF THESE
DYNOJET MODEL 150 DYNOS. THESE MODS RESULTED IN THE ADDITION OF 2 PEAK
HP AND SOME NICE MID-RANGE TORQUE AND HP GAINS. 2HP REALLY SHOULDN'T
MAKE THE BIKE MUCH FASTER HOWEVER IN BACK TO BACK ROLLON TESTING WITH A
FRIENDS R1 (145.7HP) MY BIKE NOW PULLS AWAY HARD FROM HIS AT ANY RPM IN
ANY GEAR. FURTHER EVIDENCE OF THE ADDITIONAL HP WAS SEEN AT THE DRAG
STRIP WITH AN INCREASE IN 1/4 MILE TRAP SPEED OF 2 MPH. 2 HP JUST ISN'T
GOING TO GET YOU 2 MPH IN THE 1/4 MILE.
I'M NOW WAITING TO HIT ANOTHER DYNO TO SEE WHAT KIND OF RESULTS I GET THERE. THE DYNO I NORMALLY USE IS NOT KNOW FOR GIVING HIGH RESULTS, AS EVIDENCED BY MY 132 HP BONE STOCK RUN.
HERE'S AN INTERESTING PICTURE FROM THE DYNO. WE SAW 189 BUT 184 WAS THE BEST I COULD DO WHILE TRYING TO STICK THE CAMERA IN FRONT OF THE DYNO OPERATORS FACE.
