Why Do You Need Tables?

Here's one reason, right here. As you can see, I just started typing.

so what happened?

Without the use of a table to "lasso" the text, it all "bleeds" into the border. It does that because I set no attributes to contain it.

So How Do You Fix IT?

With TABLES
( geesh pay attention, will ya? )

Wanna Know How?

Yeahhh, I know, of COURSE you do !
( or ya wouldn't be here, right? )

Ok, when you are ready,see
the discussions under the headings below.

Tables On Bordered Backgrounds

First of all a webpage or an email page has a defined width ( it's only so big). When you use attributes such as <<>center> or <<>align="left"> it "plops" the text or image in the CENTER of the page or ALIGNS them to the left. ( JUST like you told it to do.) It doesn't "know " that you used a bordered background.

..for instance here's the code I just used above to get the text to be inline with the exact outside edge and have a straight margin, and then to have the green text beneath it, but NOT aligned straight with the edge.

<<>table width="60%"><<>tr><<>td align="left"><<>font color="white"><<>i><<>b>all the white italic , bold text here<<>br><<>br><<>center><<>font color="yellowgreen">all the green text here<<>/font><<>/td><<>/tr><<>/table>

It depends on the width of the border on the background, but 40% to about 65% seems to work just fine.

Varying the alignment, font color, size and using underlines or other means, helps to provide visual breaks for the reader, and prevents that "same o'le same o'le" from happening that may make the reader wanna snore...lol.

We'll continue on the next page with a discussion of tables. I'll begin to show you how to make the "boxes", called "cells" to contain and display information.
