FAQ Page
Read this before sending email. (Even better, read it before you use Mario Improvement3.)
Q: Why can't I add objects?
A: Because you can't add data to a ROM. For NES ROMs it is virtually impossible to add data unless you know a lot of ASM, and even then it might not be possible. If you tried to add data the game would not work. Even if you tried to take data away it would not work.
Q: I can't play the levels on your site! NESticle won't open it!
A: IPS is NOT a ROM. It's a patch. You must use an IPS patching tool (like SNESTool) to patch the levels into the ROM. If you make levels you should also distribute them in this format. I will only put your levels if they are in IPS format.
Q: Is there a Mac version?
A: No, there isn't. I don't own Macs, nor do I have access to them. I have no plans for porting it to Macs. Other OSes (Win9x or Linux), however, are (perhaps) possible, but not anytime in the near future.
Q: Mario Improvement3 does not work on my computer!
A: Hey, that's not a question! If it doesn't work, tell me what happened (what you were doing at the time, the error message, etc.) Also tell me the specs of your computer (RAM, OS, processor, etc.) The more you tell me, the more chance I'll have of fixing the bug for the next version.
Q: Will this work with a console copier?
A: I don't know. I don't own one. You're going to have to find out for yourself.
Q: Why did you make this for the NES Super Mario Bros. 3? Why not make a Super Mario All-Stars version?
A: Personally, I think the NES version is better. :) More importantly, because SNES is 16-bit, it would likely be much harder (and take much longer) to do, and the format of the levels may or may not be the same (and on top of that, likely much harder to find). When I started researching the SMB3 level fomat for this program I used the NES version, so that's also why it's for the NES. If I made a SMAS version I would likely have to start over from scratch. When I already have a working editor for SMB3, it doesn't really make sense for me to do a SMAS version. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Q: When will <new fature> get implemented?
A: When I get around to it. I'm busy with some other things right now too, but I'll eventually implement everything (I hope.) I have no plans of cancelling the Mario Improvement 3 project.
Q: Why can't I move stages on the map screens?
A: Beacuse there's a pointer table (I hope) somewhere that I haven't found yet. It proably contains something like the locations of the levels and what (x, y) value of the map screen you enter that level from. Because I haven't found it yet, you can't move them. The game doesn't know which level to load without it.
