Cape St. Mary - "Cap Sainte-Marie"

Cap Sainte-Marie received it's name from de Mont in 1604 and is indicated on maps as Cape St. Mary. A number of English settlers received grants in this area...probably the most noted being Colonel John Taylor. These grantees changed the name to Cape Cove which is found on some of the old records and documents...however...the Acadians continued to refer to it as Cap Ste-Marie and today locally both the cape itself and the village go under that name.

The boats lay waiting for their crews in this picturesque little fishing village...

The bay reminds us of her winter fury...
and she should be treated with respect...

...the lighthouse stands alone...a sentinel on guard...

...for those who approach her rocky shores...
