During the winter of 1755-56 approximately 120 Acadians who were attempting to escape being captured and deported spend the winter at this location...which must have been a nightmare come true. Amongst those who were in this group was Pierre Belliveau ...dit "Piau"...the leader of the group. The location where these Acadians spend that long winter and where the first Acadian cemetery at Baie Ste.-Marie is located became known as Ile-à-Piau...after Pierre Belliveau.

Later this location...Major's Point or "Pointe-à-Major" derived it's present name from Major Anselme Doucet...later to become Colonel Anselme Doucet.
