Their Youth Lost Forever

For those Canadians who remember...
For those Canadians who have been forgotten...
For those Canadians who keep returning...
For those Canadians who have never left...
For those Canadians who couldn’t hold their heads up for the longest time...
For those Canadians who wouldn’t return to the U.S.A. ...
For those once young Canadians who will never be the same...
AND
For all those people who will never know and would never understand...

They fought with honour...they fought with pride
They fought as brothers side by side
Their ancestors were foes to the bitter end
But today one young boy will loose his most trusted friend...

A war machine from above arrives to ease the strain
But instead from the sky floats down a deadly orange rain
The cold dark leaves surrender and drift to the ground
The young boy's eyes remand open...yet God he has found...

A world away from home...two different countries they hail
One boy cries out...the other's face is now greyish pale
The boy looks up and wants to hear someone tell him why
His friend had to be here...and why he had to die...

It was not his war...a mere lad of ten plus eight
He had no vengence...he felt no hate
His lure of adventure became a nightmarish flaw
Now three decades later he still silently weeps at the sights he saw...

Few know of these young Canadians to the jungle they went
Their youth lost...at home their teens they could have spend
Yet to another world they were send never to be the same
Even if they did return...answering to their given name...

Written in memory of C.C...be at peace my friend...
