Emery "Okie Dokie" Lamunyun

As I reflect on last deer season

a few memories come to mind,

The doe I could have shot at 5 yards with my bow,

but it just wasn't her time...

The buck I missed way early

I guessed the distance wrong,

I never should have taken the shot

42 yards is way too long;

The crisp morning I got my 6 pt.

all the deer I saw that day,

The shot was perfect as he trotted by

only 30 yards more there he lay.

The 4 pt. I got with my smoke pole,

the first one I ever grunted in;

I should have let him cross the river first

then I wouldn't have had to swim!...

All the deer are special

whether I shoot or just sit and watch,

same for the bobcats, coyotes,

the raccoons, the squirrels and the fox;

The 10pt. I shot with my rifle

was the 4th buck I had seen in 2 days,

I passed on 3 that were smaller

waiting for him to come my way.

I'll remember sittin' in that tree stand

even when I saw no deer,

the quiet, the peace, the beauty

remind me God is always near.

So now I wait for next season

and hope the memories are many and bright,

only now I can share them with you all

and retell the stories all night;

Good night to all my new friends here,

I enjoy your wit and your style,

You make the off season a little less boring,

and you always make me smile...........
