| In 1988, PeTA said; "Pet ownership is an absolutely abysmal situation brought about by human manipulation"-- Ingrid Newkirk |

In 1997, PeTA says: "Many of us have made commitments to dogs and cats who might not be alive today if we had turned them away at our doors."-- Ingrid Newkirk |
Does this seem an about face to you? It does to me. Then again, maybe they needed money, maybe they needed a celebrity to legitimize their cause. Maybe it was Linda McCartney who gets to keep "Companion Animals" (a PeTA politically correct word for "Pets").
" Linda also said it inspired her to feed her own cat companions a cruelty-free, animal-free diet. PeTA sent Linda new vegetarian cat recipes in March." - PeTA website - commenting on Linda McCartney's help with Ms. Newkirk's book, June 17, 1998 http://www.peta-online.org/mac/index2.html
