William Lesley Hume

&

Mattie Leola Scott

William Lesley Hume met my Grandmother, Mattie Leola Scott when he was working on the railroad in Grady Co., Oklahoma, near Chickasha. Grandma's brother, Willie Scott, worked with Grandpa. Grandma lived in a small town just North of Chickasha, called Amber. Grandma had been married to a man named John Robert Humphrey, who was the son of Washington Humphrey and Mary Nunn. She divorced John and took her maiden name back, so we didn't know that she had a previous marriage until a cousin from Kentucky called who had been researching John Humphrey's history. Grandma and John did not have any children.

William and Mattie were married on 19 Jan 1909 in Chickasha. Shortly after they married they moved to Scott Co., Arkansas, where their first son, William Paul was born. Their second son, Frederick Grant, was born in Franklin Co., Arkansas. Between 1911 and 1913, they moved to the Rose Hill area, near Lequire in Haskell Co., Oklahoma. The rest of their children were born around the area known as Diamond Township. They are Ruby Gladys, Thelma Trudy (my wonderful Mother), Benjamin Franklin, James Manuel and Raymond Otto.

William Hume was born in Boone Co., Missouri on 21 Dec 1871, the son of Reuben T. Hume and Elizabeth Susan Connelly. He died 14 April 1941, near McCurtain, Haskell Co., Oklahoma.

Mattie Scott was born in Livingston Co., Kentucky on 28 Aug 1879, the daughter of John Henry Scott and Jemima Humphrey. She died 2 Jan 1940 near McCurtain, Haskell Co., Oklahoma.

Both are buried in San Bois Cemetery, Haskell Co., near Kinta, Oklahoma.
