What genealogy software do we use? Who has used Family History Center computers? Who is on the Internet? Introduce the Family History Center (FHC) Sign-in to allow for better planning and budgeting Fees for copies, films, and fiches - none for computer use Brief look at LDS role in genealogy ("Familys Are Forever") Will cover FHC programs: Ancestral File, IGI, Military Index, Soc. Sec. Death Index, Scottish Church Records, Mayflower descendants, Family History Library CatalogThe Computer What are the parts, terms & capabilities? (modems,CDroms,etc.) What kind of computers should one buy? (minimum requirements) Should your coputer be upgraded? Is it worth it? Discussion on general computer use and costs. |
Week 2 | Personal genealogy software: Demonstrate features of Personal Ancestry File (PAF) Enter data Make changes Searches Printing, Reports, Blank Forms, etc. GEDCOM files Import / Export Compare other available softwares (FTM, AQ, etc.) Sources of software for free or purchase Points To Remember: |

Week 5 | Introduction to the Internet History of the Internet Parts of the Internet are Aarpnet, Http, Ftp, Surenet, Telnet, the WEB, etc.) Getting On-line / Accessing the Internet Internet Service Providers (ISPs) examples: AOL, Prodigy, IDT, ATT, etc. Browsers include MS Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL's, etc. Email MS Mail, MS Exchange, OutLook Express,Galaxy, etc. |
