The Southern Episcopal Church

The Diocese of the South is the oldest diocese in the Southern Episcopal Church. It was established in 1965.
We continue today as we were begun. Merely Christians, holding to the faith and practice of the traditional Episcopal Church of the United States of America.

WHAT IS THE
SOUTHERN EPISCOPAL CHURCH?

The Southern Episcopal Church was organized by a group of Episcopalians who felt the need to establish an Episcopal Church that was true to the basic doctrine and practice of Anglican Tradition. The Southern Episcopal Church continues to teach the Faith of our Father as given to the Church in England and subsequently to the Episcopal Church in America.
The Southern Episcopal Church continues to use the Book of Common Prayer (1928 Edition) as its book of worship. While other Episcopal Churches discard the Prayer Book, and the Apostles Doctrine the Southern Episcopal Church seeks to preserve for generations to come the Book of Common Prayer as given to us by the Anglican Reformers.
The Southern Episcopal Church is a Church that seeks to preach the pure word of God. We believe the Holy Bible is verbally inspired, infallible and without admixture of error.
The Southern Episcopal Church is an apostolic Church that holds the threefold male ministry of Bishops, Priests and Deacons. It is the form of Ministry that our Church has received, and it is the intent of our Church to continue this as a sacred trust from the time of the Apostles.
The Southern Episcopal Church is a Church in which the Sacraments are duly administered according to the historic 1928 Book of Common Prayer.
The Southern Episcopal Church is a conservative Church. We therefore reject the so-called new morality and the current trend to have churches function as political entities. We do not seek membership in the World Council of Churches, the National Council of Churches of Christ, or the Consultation on Church Union. Hence, we must describe ourselves as conservatives, believing that the preaching of the Gospel is the only proper activity of the Church.
The Southern Episcopal Church is an Episcopal Church that believes that its members should know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, through the operation of the Holy Spirit. We believe that each member should have a lively faith in Christ and not a “Sunday only” faith. We preach Jesus Christ crucified and say to all who will hear: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house.” Acts 16:31
