This page gives news bites. It doesn't (usually) give long detailed news
articles. Its intended to be a way of catching up with the news quickly.
Where possible I give links to fuller information.

In a recent Interview Mick Tinker seemed confident that the recent
news would not affect Boxer sales. Index Information have a
partnership with Phase 5 over PPC. they are part of this arrangement
with Haage & Partner and are confident that there will be upgrading
of the OS in "Classic" Amigas.
(Updated 17th May 1998)
- It seems that Phase 5 and Haage & Partner have been shocked to
their senses by the x86 news. Today they announced that they would
co-operate in their PowerPC support. About time lads! There is talk
of working on news OS extensions for PPC and work is being done on an
alternative to the x86 "Bridge" system, a proposal for which
will be put to AInc.

- An excellent overview of whats happened and how Amigan's are
reacting to it can be found at SQUID'S
RUMOUR MILL.
- Well the earthquake has hit, but the shockwave is still moving.
Amiga Inc weren't kidding when they said they had a big announcement.
hey it even got onto news.com.
The best summary of events plus IRC conference logs is at http://www.primenet.com/~jweb/woa98news.html

Read this stuff carefully. There's a lot of rumours floating about
that aren't at all accurate.
(Updated 17th May 1998)
- Yet more hype about WOA. This time from the unusual source
Computer Trade Weekly. A UK, industry magazine. They have a small
article in the 11th May edition.
The article talks about an Amiga with PC compatibility and a target
price of around £500-£700. A mock up may be demonstrated at the show
with a working prototype on show at Cologne later in the year. The
final computer to be on sale in around 18 months time.
None of this has been confirmed by Gateway or Amiga and no
sources were quoted, however, several details do fit in with the hints
that have been given, like the mock up on display and the final
release in 18 months. Not long till we find out now.

- I recieved this little gem via email today.
" Was given permission today to announce that the Amiga Inc web site will
open for business on 5-15-98!!! It will have some 'interesting' tidbits
for all to enjoy.
Please help me by passing this far and wide ... they would like as many
as possible to know about the opening!
Thanks,
Gary Peake "
Its worth noting that 5-15-98 is the same day that the press conference
occurs at London WOA. The one thats touted as featuring the Amiga Inc X
years business plan.

- I think the Amiga world could do to visit Acronyms Anonymous. Meet the
ACLG (Amiga Community Liason Group) who's
sole purpose is to try and ensure that all the other groups talk to each other.
Their first project is the Amiga News
Feed.. This gives a central source of uncensored news which web sites/magazines
etc. can use.

- Genetic Species, the widely anticipated 3D Doom style game is finally
complete and will be available at (yup again) the World of Amiga show in
London.
(Updated 11th May 1998)
- The World of Amiga show in London on the weekend of the 15th - 17th May
is set to be the scene for Amiga Incs long anticipated announcement of its

- Just when you thought you'd got a handle on what Apple was doing, they
go and change things again. Steve Jobs has announced that the key features
in Apples new OS Rhapsody will be incorporated into Mac OS X.
The advantage for Apple is clear. OS X will be fully compatible with
System 8 programs and programs which run on OS X will run on System 8 just
without the new features.
The question is, where does that leave Rhapsody?
(Updated 12th May 1998)
- Poor old Microsoft. They just can't seem to get a break at the
moment.
Sun Microsystems is expected to file court motions that could block
the pending shipment of Microsoft's Windows 98.
(Updated 12th May 1998)
- Following on from that Apple news, it seems that Imation and Panasonic
are teaming up to create a USB SuperDisk drive that can read and write 120MB,
1.44MB, and 720K diskettes in either PC or Macintosh format. It seems
here's another standard that the Amiga needs to get in on.
(Updated 11th May 1998)
- Apple is on the up again it seems. Not only has its stock pushed past
the $30 barrier, breaking its 52 week high, but Steve Jobs launched the
iMac today. An unusual design, a price of $1,299 for a 233MHz 750 PowerPC
CPU, 32MB of memory and a 4Gig hard drive all make this an attractive
proposition. Perhaps most significantly though, the iMac uses USB
(Universal Serial Bus), which is popular on new PCs and will allow Mac
users to benefit from cheap PC peripherals for the first time.
(Updated 7th May 1998)
- According to a recent poll most Americans oppose state attorneys general blocking
the release of Windows 98. Mind you the poll was commissioned by a
certain software giant.
