The Surrender
of Japanese Imperial Army in Loo Valley somewhere in Mt. Province, North
Luzon, Philippines after the capture of General Tomoyuki Yamashita.
General Yamashista had more than 65,000 men under his command in his mountain
stronghold. These dedicated troops stayed for the remaining weeks of the
war until Emperor Hirohito asked them to leave. Estimated headcount of
surrenderees at this site: 13,000 troops, 500 female nurses and about 1,600
civilians.
