We assume that the gentle reader is familiar with the hypertext markup language which currently is the de facto lingua franca of cyberspace. We shall leave most of the technical considerations to the others so inclined. Our primary focus is web aesthetics, an issue that has generated a lot of heated debates. We shall limit our scope to the most recent mutation of human expression, the personal homepage. We shall explore its many delights. We shall offer hints on improving a homepage's appearance with the hope that the gentle reader will forgive our pecularities and prejudices. Much as we condone the old adage, chacun à son goût, i.e., everyone to his taste, we heartily agree that there are some people with taste so bad they ought to be whipped. This has become a problem in cyberspace: the barbarians have come knocking at the door. |
