Carlos Zamata Quispe comes from a quechua indigenous community called Senccha Chectuyoc (Sencca Checctayoc) in Peru. The community is a part of Sicuani, Cusco (Qosqo).

Carlos is one of the greatest exponents and master of the traditional Peruvian instruments, he is also composer of Andes new material. In addition to playing Andean folk music, Carlos also plays professionally together with the famous Sami artist, Mari Boine. He has been on tours in USA, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Europe and Scandinavia. This experience has given him a broader background, which he uses in his music, world music. Carlos also has experience in making music effects for movies and documentaries.
