WAS IT CHANCE?

Was it chance, this meeting of two strangers,
dancing on a crowded city sidewalk?

Or, was it a guardian angel,
called by a soul in despair.

Was it chance that dulled razor sharp senses,
allowing alien hands to touch without notice?

Or, was it a guardian angel with the hands of a pickpocket?

Was it chance that made me listen to a song,
that touched my soul.

Or, was it a guardian angel impatient with my lack of perception.

Was it chance that led my feet straight to the spot,
you had retreated too,
so you could shed your tears unobserved.

Or, was it a guardian angel determined to end your pain.

Was it chance that made you talk to empty air,
giving me the clues I needed to know your grief.

Or, was it a guardian angel whispering in my ear,
telling me how to heal the pain, I had caused.

Was it chance that set these events into motion?
Or, a guardian angel answering a cry for help.
