Prayers for our RETT Families

"A prayer in its simplest definition is merely a wish turned Godward."

10-9-98

We really need some major prayers here in Oklahoma. I just found out that my mom (54 yr.) had a mammogram done Wed. and they found a lump. The Dr. called her that afternoon and wanted her to come in to his office the next morning so he could schedule a biopsy. She's refusing to have anything done about it. She said she just can't go through anything else this year, ( for the new members here, my mom suffered a major heart attack in May of this year and was in the hosp. right at a month.) She's been very depressed since her MI and she's taking a antidepressant but it's not really helping her. She's just kind of given up. She won't go anywhere except to church & the Dr.

Her Dr. Called me yesterday and said that I really needed to try and get her to have this biopsy done because from just looking at the mammogram it looked like cancer. Please keep her in your prayers.

Now about Chelsey, she got up Tues. morning and was having trouble walking. I took her to her Dr. and he said that she was a lot more unsteady and she has started dragging her right foot and wanting to stand on her toes a lot more.

She was walking fine all day Mon. He checked her hips and said her extremities seemed fine, he didn't have any suggestions except to increase her PT. I called the school and they said that she was getting the most she could get through the school, 1 hr. a week and that if she needed anymore that I would have to pay for it. Here we go again, back to the issues about the waiver program her in our grand state of OK. I'm not even going to go there right now. I've rambled enough, just remember all of us when you talk to the BIG GUY upstairs.

Sonya

Melissa Lyons who is in extreme pain from an infection in her leg.

Marjorie

The Anderson Family whose brother Larry went home to God. Grant them strength.

I just got off the phone with my brother and found out that my nephew Danny has been admitted into the hospital. As you know he had a brain tumor removed last December and has been undergoing pretty tough chemotherapy since April.

He could use our prayers since he has been losing weight and now has started throwing up what little he can keep down. To make it worse his platelet count is low, so they have admitted.

My sister (Danny's Mom) could use some prayers now too as she was recently diagnosed with MS and this could set her back also.

Thanks, this means so much to me right now.

Please include my family. We are so new to the Rett diagnosis and are devastated. My parents are trying to be strong for me and I am trying to be strong too but I feel like I'm falling apart.

Chelsea is only 23 months and is in that difficult stage. Please pray for her that she will become a happy child soon. As long as your praying please pray that she will be "healed" from Rett. I know it's a long shot but I believe in miracles and I pray daily that this might happen. Not just for Chelsea but for all the Rett angels.

Pray for Laura Marx, Allie's (RS) oldest sister

Laura has had a terrible year. She has had 4 hospitalizations, including surgery for a broken ankle in 3 places (8 weeks ago) and laser surgery for diabetic retinopathy (last Thursday). Laura is 24. The doctor said that she was going to be blind in 3-4 years. I will be taking Laura to the doctor again today for extreme pain and swelling in her ankle. She says that it feels like the bone is protruding. Laura has been unable to walk for 8 weeks.

Laura has been a great help to me while I raise 4 little ones as a single parent. Now, I'm caring for one more person. I'm tired! Please pray for Laura's healing. Please pray that I have the strength to make it through all of this without any further pain from my automobile accident in January. I continue to have neck, back, shoulder and wrist pain.

Prayer Poems

Lord, sometimes this rett-road is so weary

and we don't understand the way

that it often makes us teary

and we turn to you and pray~

Let this journey teach us trust

in you and others we need in life,

for in you we know we must

for not all can handle this strife.

~I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~

I said a prayer for you today

And know God must have heard,

I felt the answer in my heart

Although He spoke not a word,

I prayed that He'd be near you

At the start of each new day,

To grant you health and blessings,

And friends to share your way,

I asked for happiness for you,

In all things great and small

But it was His loving care

I pray for most of all

(from: Kim Nessalt)

~The Bridgebuilder~

An old man going a lone highway

came at the evening cold and gray

to a chasm vast and deep and wide

The old man crossed in the twilight dim

the sullen stream held no fear for him

But he turned when safe on the other side

and built a bridge to span the tide

"Old man" said a fellow pilgrim near

"You are wasting your time with building here"

"You never again will pass this way

Your journey will end with the close of the day

You have crossed the chasm deep and wide

Why build you this bridge at even tide?"

The builder lifted his old gray head

"Good friend in the way that I've come," he said

"There follows after me this day

A youth whose feet must pass this way

This stream which has been as nothing to me

to the fair haired youth might a pitfall be

Yes, he too must cross in the twilight dim

Good friend, I am building this bridge for him."

Dear all,

We wish to inform you that in August, June and Dallas Keogh of Sydney, ended 45 years of wonderful devotion with the passing of their daughter Jennifer.

Jennifer had only recently been diagnosed as having R.S., and did not have the benefit of the therapy, special schools ect. now available to our girls.

However, she did have two very devoted sisters Beverley and Cathy, and her loving parents.

Jennifer is now at peace, but her story shows how important it is to promote R.S. awareness, so that parents of the girls do not feel alone, but have the support of others. It is sad that she lived less than 10 miles from our "get together" meetings where the exchange of information and just being together helps so much. Therefore, we were only able to see Jennifer once, which is sad.

Regards,

Tony & Mavis

Angie Galipeau passed away this week in her sleep. She was 25 and lived in Federal Way, Washington. She and my Angie enjoyed each other's company over the years, and even shared an experimental classroom once at the Experimental Education Unit at the University of Washington. I don't remember ever seeing Angie G. when she wasn't smiling. She was a delight. The funeral home was packed with people whose lives she touched.

Angie lived in a group home in Federal Way were her parents also resided. Her family, except for her sister, moved to Montana two years ago, knowing Angie was in a loving environment. She made visits to Montana for a few weeks at a time, and her sister was near her in Federal Way. (Her mom had rotator cuff surgery some years ago as a result of caring for Angie, and around that time found a loving home for her. JoAnn is quite small, and Angie was 108 lbs.)

As my Angie sat next to me during the service, tears rolled down my face. Angie reached over and squeezed my hand firmly and didn't let go through the entire service. It was if she was saying, "I know what you are thinking, Mom." (This is the girl whose hands are going almost all of the time.)

I asked Angie G.'s folks if it would be okay to post a message on the Rettnet, knowing you would be responsive. Their e-mail address is:

The Galipeau's

If anyone would like to send a card, the address is:

The Galipeau Family

282 South Kootenai

Stevensville, MT 59870

They indicated they would really like to hear from other parents.
