Malachite gets it's name from the Greek word Mala'khe, which refers to it's green color. Major sources for this semiprecious stone are Russia, Africa, Australia and parts of the United States. The Egyptians used malachite as early as 4000. B.C. for amulets, jewelry and cosmetics. During the middle ages. malachite was worn for protection from sorcery and black magic.
