Trevor worked the night before, until about 6:30 AM, and I had to wake him up at about 10:30 AM. This did not make for a very happy groom. We met with our priest (Fr. Andrew) at Noon to go over some last minute ceremony details. After that, Trevor & my dad went to pick up their tuxes and I stayed with my mom and some family friends that were here (my mom kept saying how calm and relaxed I looked, and I really was…but not for long…)
HINT: When your guys try on their tuxes, make sure they check the pockets for holes. My dad’s pants had to be sent back because there were holes in the pockets. Everything else was ok.
After that, Trevor & I went with my dad to help him get checked into the hotel (Comfort Inn), and Trevor helped carry their stuff in. While doing this, Kelly, one of Trevor’s Groomsmen, had called us saying he was at the tux shop (less than a mile from where we live). I told him Trevor couldn’t talk because he had his hands full. He was carrying stuff for my dad, but Kelly took it all wrong and hung up before I could explain! The funny part was that he called back a half hour later and Trevor was still carrying stuff for dad (we had to stop in the middle to clear something up with the hotel), so I again had to tell him that Trevor’s hands were full! We left the hotel after getting dad & mom settled and went to the tux shop to see Kelly. Now, Trevor picked out the tuxes on his own…the only part I knew about was the vests they were wearing. I didn’t know anything else about the styles, colors, or anything, not even of Trevor’s. So, when we walked in, Debbie (the lady working there) shoved Kelly back into the dressing room so I wouldn’t see the tux. It was so funny.
We left there and Kelly asked if we needed help with anything since he was in town (he lives about 45 minutes away). So, he went with us to the grocery store (we had to buy some more pop for the reception) and he was so sweet because he wouldn’t let me lift a finger. He kept saying, “You’re the bride, give me that!” Then, he offered to go with us to help decorate the hall. So we came home, loaded up all the stuff for the hall, and left. We had several people going to help us: Mom & Dad Tholl, Monica (and her two boys), Dave & Mary Lynne, Joellen, Kelly, Trevor, & me.
When we got there, Kelly was just wonderful. He not only helped out, he took charge and just started getting stuff done. Again, he wouldn’t let me lift a finger. Everybody else really pitched in as well and got things going. They were all such a great help to us. Well, at first, things were going ok at the hall. But then I realized our DJ wasn’t there. We had never met her (long story), but she said she would be there Thursday night to set up her equipment and spend some time with us going over exactly what we wanted for Saturday. Well, she never showed up, and dummy me left her cell number at home so couldn’t call her to say “Where are you?!?” Ok, so that had me very upset and worried. This is 2 days before the wedding and we’ve never met her, only talked on the phone. We still need to tell her what songs we want played, how we want to be introduced, etc.
Ok, then Trevor comes up to me and says, “Will you tell Linda (the hall owner & caterer) that these chairs need to be cleaned before Saturday!” There had been a wedding the weekend before, and several of the chairs had cake and dried beverages on them. It was disgusting. So I told Linda, and though she didn’t seem too happy about it, I stood my ground and told her we wanted them cleaned before Saturday! So she said ok. Then after we had all the tables decorated, Linda came out, picked up a thing of bubbles, and said very snottily “You can’t blow these in here, it’ll make the floor way too slippery!” That’s fine, I can understand that, but when we first booked the hall, we dealt with this lady who worked for Linda and later quit, but who apparently told us all kinds of stuff that was wrong, including we could have bubbles. I was so fed up by this point. So alright, by now my calmness was gone, I had people coming up to me asking what to do, and I had no clue. I was just so worked up by this point and bridal jitters were kicking in. We finished everything up, and the only ones left in there were Kelly, Trevor, & me. Well, I just lost it and started crying. Trevor just held me, and Kelly just kind of quietly walked away to give us our privacy.
It was about 8:00 PM by the time we left the hall, and Kelly, Trevor & I still hadn’t had dinner. So I told Trev I wanted us to take Kelly out to dinner and to talk to him about it on the way home (Trevor & Kelly rode together, my sister & I rode together). He wasn’t going to go with us, but somehow I managed to get Kelly aside and asked him to please come to dinner with us, he had done so much to help us that day, so he finally said he would. So Kelly, Trevor, & I went to Lucky’s Steakhouse here in town. We had such a good time…they had me laughing and relaxed again. When Kelly left to go home, he gave me a hug, which was so sweet. Trevor & I then went home and went to bed. We lay there talking about the DJ situation, and we both had a calm come over us about it. As long as we were married at the end of the day, that was the most important thing. And then we fell asleep. So it was a good ending to the day.
